I owe this little space a lot of updates. I've been everywhere for the past month and this journal is filled with cobwebs. Ooops.
Singapore is a really great place. And right now, an art festival is ongoing with the theme, I Want to Remember. A varied theme, you might say. A lot to cover in just a month's time of musical, theatrical and visual performances. But I think it's a very fitting, human theme.
As I walked around the city a lot, I tried recalling my 10-year-old memories of Singapore. I remembered clearly that my dad took us on that trip because I graduated with honors during my elementary years. Everyone was overjoyed. It was our first trip overseas! I was scared of the plane taking off at first, but the experience was thrilling in the end. It was my amazing first plane ride at Singapore Airlines!
Fast forward. I remembered a lot of things and places. But a lot of changes took place! No wonder, the city is always growing, expanding, developing. Everything is more efficient, more amazing, more marvelous to look at. Singapore is such a feast for the senses, especially important for someone who needs to be inspired from time to time.
I love it how the ultramodern buildings contrast with the old. History is not forgotten in this city for it gives them a sense of self and identity. It is not nostalgia but a reconnection of a relationship to the past.
This exploration allowed me to come across triggers which activate memory fragments within me. Forgotten places, sights, sounds and the other senses. I had reconstructed and perhaps even reinvented these memories. Intimate, personal, unbelievable experiences. These inspire me to respond to create even more lasting memories that will extend long even after my life draws to a close.
I want to work there someday. But that's another musing to tell in another entry. Cheers! :)
