Sentimental Nut
“Hey guys-”
“Ssssh.”
“….WHAT THE-”
“Do you not comprehend the meaning of sssssssh…?”
“Oh, sorry… what’s going on? Is she okay?”
“Headache at breakfast, fever by lunch.”
“Have you taken her to the doctor’s-”
“She took some of the Panadol Li brought with her.”
“That’s all? And where is Li?”
“It’s not that serious to warrant a trip to the doctor’s. It’s probably exhaustion. And I told Li to go with the rest and have fun. You should too. She wouldn’t want you guys to worry about her till the whole plan is disrupted. Besides, I’m the son of a doctor. I’ve picked up a few things.”
“…oi, you’re not about to-”
“Stop that line of thinking right there. I’m a flirt, not a monster.”
“…nevertheless, if anything happens to her-”
“If anything happens to Jac, the scum who harmed her had better have a good dental plan because once I catch them, there won’t be any teeth left for them to chew with. Alright?”
“…fine. But let me just tell you, Oshitari, if we come back and find Jac in any sort of trouble, you’re the one who better sign up for life insurance. Provided you actually live after we get through with you.”
“I find your threats fascinating, I’m sure. Now go on. Get out of here.”
“…well, if you’re sure…”
“Go.”
“Alright, alright… take care of her, okay? See ya.”
Click.
“Sigh… the one chance I get to be alone with you this whole trip and you have to go and fall sick…”
Oshitari pulled up the blanket over Jac’s sleeping body, brows furrowing in concern at the way she shivered. Best thing for this was a cold compress, lots of rest and plenty of blankets. And to make sure she didn’t dehydrate too much while her body fought whatever virus that had gotten in.
“And to think, we’re in a hotel room too. What will your parents say?”
The amused smirk was quickly wiped away as he flipped the cold towel over. The surface was now warm, having absorbed her body heat - a temperature that caused him some concern despite his apparent calm.
Oshitari did what he could before he settled into a chair by the bed and pulled out a magazine to read.

“…nngh…”
“Ah, the sleeping beauty awakes…”
Blinking in sleepy confusion, Jac frowned. “…Yuushi?”
“At your service, milady.” He sat on the side of the bed, gently laying a hand on her forehead and then her cheek. “You don’t feel so warm compared to yesterday. An improvement I’d say.”
“…yesterday?” She blinked a few more times.
“You slept the entire day, Jac. I had to do a lot of convincing before the others let me keep you company during the night. Li was exceptionally hard to budge.” He clucked his tongue. “I can’t imagine why.”
Jac wasn’t so fever muddled until she couldn’t process what he’d just implied. “…you spent the whole of yesterday and last night… here?”
“Yes, Jac.” He smiled a little.
“…you nut,” she said although a smile had stolen over her lips.
He merely smirked. “I’ll get you some water. Then go back to sleep - your fever’s broken but some more hours of rest will make sure you don’t fall over when you sit up later. No arguing,” he added quickly.
After he’d poured out a glass of water and helped her take in a few gulps, Jac regarded him with a thinly disguised look of amusement and fondness. “I never thought you’d be so sentimental.”
“You know I never do things without reason, Jac,” said Oshitari. He drew out a card from his pocket and grinned a little. “I managed to get this room’s card key. So when you’re feeling better, maybe…”
The amusement and fondness now faded into a look. “Whatever it is: no.”
Letting out a laugh, he bent over and dropped a kiss on her forehead. “Get some rest, Jac. I’ll be here.”
As she flashed him one last smile before closing her eyes again, Oshitari’s smirk turned into a tiny, relieved smile. That kind of reaction just proved she was alright and for that, he was thankful.
End.
