So Rest
“…okay, spit it out.”
“What?”
“Spit it out. C’mon.”
“…what are you talking about?”
“Whatever that’s bothering you today. Let’s hear it.”
“…Nothing’s bothering me-”
“And I’m the queen of England.”
“…well, your highness, I had absolutely no idea… look, what gives you the idea something’s bothering me?”
“The fact that you haven’t said a word about college and usually you tell me at least something that happened. And you’ve been pulling that face the whole time too.”
“What face?”
“That glum face you have whenever something’s off. What is it?”
“…Shishido-kun, you really don’t have to hear all of this crap. I mean-”
“Iyori, let me decide what I need or don’t need to hear, alright? Now spill.”
“…okay. So it’s been like this…”

They came to a stop under a large tree in a park by the time she finished her narrations. Of how her assignments hadn’t gone right that week, how she felt worried she wasn’t good enough… some fears that had preyed on her mind for a while until her dreams were disturbed.
“…and I just feel tired now. Physically and mentally.”
Shishido looked at her for a while before he let out a breath. “So rest.”
“It’s not that easy…”
“I’ll show you how,” he said before sitting down under the tree. “Now, you sit. On me.”
“ON you?”
“I don’t mean on my head. I mean, here,” he waved his hands in the general direction between his arms. At her hesitancy, he raised an eyebrow. “Don’t you trust me?”
That did it. With a small sigh at both his stubbornness and his concern, she sat down and leaned against him. He wrapped his arms around her waist, settling her own arms below his.
“Now,” he muttered, voice a few centimeters from her ear. “Close your eyes, and just rest for a while.”
“With you hugging me like this?” she asked, humour now returning to her voice. “I’ll fall asleep and then you’ll be stuck holding me for an hour or so.”
“If it helps you, I’ll hold you for two.”
“…thank you, Shishido-kun.”
He smiled a little. “Sleep.”
Iyori did just that in a few minutes. Shishido’s body warmth combined with the cool breeze lulled her into peaceful sleep, something she hadn’t had in a few days.
At the sound of her even breathing, Shishido breathed out. Sometimes he wondered why she bothered to still think of him as her boyfriend - they were both studying in different places and more often than not, it was she who came to support him. Guilty pangs stung him whenever he thought about that.
So, he'd promised himself if he couldn’t protect her from the tough times, then at the very least he could help her catch her breath whenever she had a chance.
Even if it was something as simple as sitting under a shady tree and napping.
End.
