Habsburg/Austria/Hungary References

I noticed that this list gradually grew bigger, so I finally decided to just use this as my dumping ground for interesting Habsburg/Austria/Hungary articles/essays for my Hetalia muse. :P

----------

New:

- Austria and the Hungarian Revolution 1956

Just some more stuff about the 1956 revolution. Actually, the main page provides decent Austria info.

- Austria and the End of the Cold War

Nice website on Austria's role during and up to the end of the Cold War.

- Cold War History Research Center

Another excellent information source from Corvinus University of Budapest, this time focusing on the Cold War.

- Peaceful Coexistence, Neutrality, and Bilateral Relations across the Iron Curtain: Introduction

----------

- Co-operation through the Iron Curtain, Economic Relations between Austria and Hungary after the Second World War
- Thirty Years of Economic Relations between Austria and Hungary (1960-1990)
- "Austria - Sieve to the East:" Austria's Neutrality during the East-West Economic War 1945/1948/1989

The most interesting part in these articles is that Hungary was shown to be "different" from the rest of the Eastern Bloc nations, thanks to its close relations with Austria, which acted as its gateway to the West of sorts.

This... has the potential to debunk all stories that depict a broken Hungary completely within Russia's control during this time period all the way up to the Fall of the Berlin Wall. ^^;

Habsburg Empire/Dual Monarchy stuff

- Discord or Achievement? Reflections on the Habsburg Empire, 1848-1918

I enjoyed this one because it tried to discuss how the empire dealt with multi-nationalism while avoiding myths created about it post-WW1 ("Austrian prison of nations"), post-WW2 ("peaceful family of nations", as opposed to Hitler's policies), and the advent of Socialism in Eastern Europe.

- The Strength of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in 1914 (Part 1)
- The Strength of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in 1914 (Part 2)

Part one discusses the points made by the anti-Habsburg school (weaknesses); part two discusses the points by the pro-Habsburg school (strengths).

Goodness, part one had been rather harsh on the Magyars' contribution to the compromise...

Austria and Hungary after the Dual Monarchy

- Deconstruction of a Myth? Austria and the Hungarian Refugees of 1956-57

One of the very first articles I've read about Austria and Hungary, and the basis of my very first Hetalia fic.

- Co-operation through the Iron Curtain, Economic Relations between Austria and Hungary after the Second World War
- Thirty Years of Economic Relations between Austria and Hungary (1960-1990)

The most interesting part in these articles is that Hungary was shown to be "different" from the rest of the Eastern Bloc nations, thanks to its close relations with Austria, which acted as its gateway to the West of sorts.

Hungary

- Corvinus Library - Hungarian History

My favorite Hungarian history reference site. Tons and tons of articles! A lot of my fan works are based on the stuff I find here. :)
