I sure hope you're still dreaming of writing the fic you have in mind. I'm not very eloquent with words (which would probably explain why most of my fanwork for APH are comic strips and such), and I'm pretty sure you are (Für Elise fic, anyone?), so I would like to read something better about the topic. ;)
I totally believe that Austria would have been among those who rebelled against the government in the Vienna Uprising. Especially since it's manga canon that he participated in the "revolution" against Metternich, no matter how inelegant that was for him. In the end, he's really all about what the people want, versus what his bosses want. In this case, his people wanted Hungary's freedom. And that's good enough for me. XD

I love your comic strips, btw! the Triple Entente one is just amazing. I also kind of love how you actually do historical things. Not enough of this happens in this fandom.
I agree completely there! I feel bad for the nations, their actions mostly bound to their governments and all, even when their people want something else, or even they themselves. ;~;

Really, really happy.
You've done a great job, for all of your insecurities about the words.
I know that I did get a little reading about the Vienna Uprising, but I guess it must have gone completely over my head, because this perspective seems completely new to me.
And miezen is right- this is definitely the kind of fic that every Austria/Hungary fan dreams of writing.
(And I've only seen one other fic on the period, which was based on Poland, so it makes me squee to see more on it. I can't get enough.)

About the perspective being new... admittedly it's not entirely historically accurate. The bit about the Russians attacking Austria if the revolution succeeds was actually just guesswork on my part (although it makes sense to me, with the Tsar being the Gendarme and all). I just really needed some sort of ammunition for the imperial court to make Austria feel guilty for his rebellion, and the Tsar was a convenient scapegoat ( ... )

I imagine that they would definitely have considered the threat at least, so what you say makes sense. (The Tsar is always a convenient scapegoat!... I feel bad for saying that. :X)
Oh? What fic? I don't think I've read it... Did it focus on a different part, then? Was it just emotional character fluff?
Yes. Oh wow, that DOES work well! It fills it in perfectly! 8D Headcanon get, yes.

I think its more emotional character fluff. The fic's name is After the Storm. It starts off with Austria visiting a bitter Hungary in her hospital room right after the revolution and ending up getting into an argument with her. After he leaves, Italy and Poland steps in to provide a little bit of advice for both. Then Prussia bothers Hungary, and Austria comes to her "rescue" (although not really), after which they compromise. Not very historically accurate, but I take what I can take. :D
