During the trip I got...

almost no reading done.

I read the book exit here all the way through.

I got halfway through the book Doing It (but I've already read that book anyway).

YOUR WOMANS NIPPLES ARE SHAKING WITH ANXIETY!!!

Uh. And nothing else.

So. "Exit Here" by Jason Meyers. It was alright.

At first I was really frustrated with it. I didn't like the almost ~glamorization~ it put on drug use. I didn't like the main character. I didn't like how they kept mentioning bands and CDs and DVDs like it was nobody's business.

"I passed out on my couch to the Modest Mouse CD. I listened to my Ugly Casanovas CD until I got there. She was wearing a G'N'R shirt." blah blah blah.

They also spent a good deal of time making fun of people who liked different bands. Namely, the Dave Mathews Band.

If somebody knows why people hate them so much, please fill me in.

It was a few hundred pages of going to bars, drinking, girls in knee socks, sex, drugs, rock and roll (haha no), agressive girlfriends, douchewad friends, daddy issues, sister issues, mommy issues, sweearing and one mammoth identity crisis. Oh my!

But then the book took a dramatic change, which is really what I was waiting for the whole time. I would turn the page, "Why am I reading this?" in anticipation for that plot twist to come.

After this dramatic change, the main character, Travis, seemed to sober up some. No pun intended.

He went back to right the wrong that had haunted him in his dreams and he learned ~the truth~, a nasty truth, about his best friend and ex-girlfriend. And his other friends, and his life, and general things.

I guess if you can trudge through the details of his day-to-day life to get to the end, then it's worth it. It feels like more of a journey. In the end, you kind of feel proud of him, despite all the really, really stupid shit he's done. But at the same time it's like "You really took this long to figure it out?"

And that's probably how it was supposed to be, too. Huh.

Do I win?

is this true?!?, books, i write bad reviews, books: exit here
