Holidays are over, College is beginning

Sep 27, 2008 01:45

Finally got around to post. Between my hand and the beginning of college, I found no time to post. (But I've tooons of things to say :D)

I'm much better than last week and the scratches are healing properly. My hand is the worst, the wound behind right in the middle of my palm. I preferred to have it bandaged rather than dressed. But enough with the whining :D

As I said, I began college on Monday. This year, I'm doing a B.A in English and this is going to be good :D It'll be a rather peaceful semester since I only have eleven hours a week, instead of seventeen hours. I 'lose' six hours because last year I validate both civilisation (3h) and the free option (3h) It's going to be nice~~ I only have class monday, tuesday and thursday. I have six subjects !

- Literature (Monday 9 AM to 12 PM)

It's poetry this semester and I think it's going to be the hardest subject for me. They're asking us to do commentaries (sort of an essay in which you decipher a text and the author's intent) and I sucked at commentaires back in High School. I never found all the things, details everyone else would find >_>... Even more in Poetry. I guess I'll just have to work hard each week. ('cause we have poems to prepare each week.) On the funny side, in one of the poems we study, we got this wonderful metaphor which was saying something else to me than it must have to the the rest of the class.

"[...],my manhood is cast
Down in the flood of remembrance, [...]"

The Piano, D.H Lawrence

Tell me I'm not the only to see it ?

And I need to scan my phonetics list, it got wonderful word associations :

" hot, whole, behind "

I'm not kidding.

- Grammar (Monday 13:30 to 15 :00)

This class may be a bit boring in the beginning since we do mainly revisions. The basics in English, like the phrase structure, questions, verbs and adverbs. We will also work on the noun phrase. I was worried I'd be really bored in that class but the teacher is really great :D She made me participate, I-the-one-who-never-participate :D Something else amusing happened during the lesson. The guy sitting next to me had put on his information sheet that he had had 17/20 (written exmaination) et 20/20 (oral examination) in his baccalaureate, however when we did a little placement examination, he made a lot of errors and wasn't able to translate simple things. Some people love to boast...

I just notice something awesome about the exercices I need to do for next week :

" Traduisez :

1. Il faut que tu rencontres Harvey. "

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA XD

Batman is EVERYWHERE !

- French (Tuesday 16:30 to 18:00)

Good class. We're going to study myths and literature :D Ancient Greece is involved of course :D The only downside of it (which is a silly downside) is that I'm going to study Midas in Ovide again. Ugh. I doooon't want to. Ovide is nice but when you work too much on something you're bound to hate it (See Voltaire's Candide. Study it three years. Consecutive years.). We will also have homeworks which can be creative writing. She also mentionned doing a presentation. My, if I wasn't as shy as I am I would so do a presentation on Homosexuality in Myths and literature >D

On the same subject, we had a nice talk about the mythical origins of some words and particularly love/sex-related word like nymphomania, aphrodisiac, hermaphrodite, and last but not least priapisme & priapée (Français). It's the fancy way of saying a man in a contant sate of erection, until the necrosis shows it putrid face and "it" fall off. So says my teacher :D I'm gooooing to love this course :D

- Oral (Thurday 9 to 11 AM)

It's the subject I was dreading the most with me being absolutely not at ease in oral . And yet, it actually was a funny and good lesson. First, our teacher is great, cheerful and completely crazy. She's from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sometimes when she talks she makes me thing of Maggie Gyllenhal in her role of Rachel Dawes in Batman. I swear I'm not obsessed. Okay, I am but in this case, it surprised me a lot :D Secondly, I HAS A FWIEND :O We were partners during the lesson, we talked after and we ate together :O It was great :D

On the funny side, I once again showed my gory side :D To get to know each other (as in 'the class'), she created a little scenario in which we the only survivors of a plane crash, stranded on a deserted island and we were supposed to think of questions we would ask each other to fight boredom. After some plain questions, I proposed :

Would you be ready to eat your friend if you had to ?

*proud*

And it looked we would be only two to seriously consider the power of the survival instinct 8D

- Picture Analysis (Thurday 12 AM to 13:30 )

The first lesson did not really convince me. It's the same analysis we do in literature but this time you do it on a picture. Which might be easier but I'm a bit mixed on the subject. Maybe it'll get better in the next lessons. Besides, I felt drained and started to drowse. Only one thing woke up me up, the term DAZZLE in the vocabulary list the teacher gave us.

DAZZLE.

As in 'Twilight's Edward! DAZZLE'

Damn, Twilight follows me everywhere >___< There even hasn't been wank about them recently. >___> Will the twilighters abandon their dream to be the HP Fandom ? I hope not ! I want teh crazy to wank again :D Although it might have been a good thing that Breaking Dawn was soooo bad that some of them opened their eyes about the whole series 8D

- Comprehension

Good lesson. Not much to say about it. We introduced ourselves, name, subject and why we were doing a B.A in English. Most people by lack of imagination (Disclaimer, I'm not boasting here. The way people were answering was clearly indicated they did not care what they were answering and were choosing the simplest answer) answered that it was because they loved English. Others such as me answered that they wanted to be translated or teachers. When I said I wanted to teahc British History, some people jeered/sniggered. I did not like that. So what ? Because I have a precise idea of what I want to do, I'm a snob ? Because I want to teach History, I'm a snob ? Well, if that's being snob, I'm being proud of being a snob. (Disclaimer : I'm going to boast)Try growing some brains (and some balls), kiddos and we'll talk. Try having the same fluency in English as I do and we'll talk.

And that's it for the first week~

Tomorrow, I'm going to the cinema. I'm going to see Faubourg 36 (a French film o_o I know it's surprising coming from me XD but it's from the director of Les Choristes) and Mamma Mia a second time 8D This film cracks me up too much 8D

Talking about films, I'm curently and actively searching (and dl-ing) for films to watch  XD If you have any suggestions, for any genre, for any period (though I'm more searching for the 80's & 90's), I'll gladly take them :D Thanks in advance :D

I'm weird.

I was doing a crossword earlier in the evening. I started out fine, writing French words. But at one moment, I started writing in English. I was reading the definition and translating o_o... and it's only after a few ords that I realised that I was doing it.

I'm scarying myself D8
