Thanks for all of your corrections!

Some corrections require a bit more input. If you were the nominator, or are closely involved in the fandom, could you please comment on the following questions by 9pm UTC 30th Sept (When is this for me?):

Under Terminator, I nominated John and Kate and Enrique meaning the characters from the T2/T3/Salvation timeline. Sorry, I was thinking Genisys would be its own fandom, otherwise I would have disambiguated John! Wasn't thinking. I'd be happy with either adding disambiguation tags or separating them, as long as John and Kate wind up in the same category.

Thank you for the information! Huh, I thought Salvation was more its own thing than that; if we do go with disambiguation tags, do you have a suggestion as to what they might be? If splitting, do you have a preference as to where they should land? "Movies that are not Genisys" seems possible but a little awkward, though we can also check with the Salvation nominator.

Salvation's kind of in a weird grey area, because time-travel shenanigans. Kyle's the only character who'd need disambiguating for that, though.

If you go with splitting, maybe "original movie timeline" and "Genisys"? And Salvation if the nominator wants that one split out too. Either way, I'd prefer if my nominations for John, Kate, and Enrique are all under the original movie timeline.

If you go with disambiguation tags, then John, Sarah, and Kyle are the only characters who should need disambiguation. Would "John Connor (T2/T3/Salvation)" work?

And I don't know which versions of Sarah and Kyle were nominated, but it would be either Sarah Connor (T1/T2), Sarah Connor (Genisys), Kyle Reese (T1), Kyle Reese (Salvation), or Kyle Reese (Genisys).

Maybe "Original Timeline" and then "Genisys" to distinguish between the two?

I'd suggest disambiguating Sarah, Kyle and John as "Genisys" and "Original Timeline" as well. Because while you could look at the fictional universe and say "But T3 and Salvation are a new timeline because the date for Judgment Day moved!" the fact remains that as a series of movies they all follow one specific lifetime for Sarah, John and Kyle (with different actors, because Hollywood). And sure, Kyle is introduced at an earlier point in his life than we'd ever seen in Salvation, but it's the same life ( ... )

Yeah, I was wondering about that, when I saw that all the Terminator movies were lumped together.

Do you have further suggestions?

Jumping in here as someone who nominated Terminator (Movies) as a lump sum...I think there are basically two ways of approaching this.

1) Each character is considered one character, across all parts of the franchise; e.g., Sarah Connor is one tag, regardless of whether you're referring to the version in one timeline played by Linda Hamilton or the one in another timeline played by Emilia Clark. This is how AO3 treats the characters. And, personally, this is how I've always seen the characters in that 'verse, because isn't that sort of the point of having multiple timelines with the same core people ( ... )

I might be obtuse (I'm very tired) but I kind of feel like you are contradicting yourself ( ... )

I disagree-I think that the canon in this case treats each character as a consistent single person, despite the variations. And existing AO3 tags do, too. I get the inclination to divvy them up, but I think that the way canon has handled things also makes it hard to do so consistently (short of separating out every movie).

Don't get me wrong, I'll write for the fandom no matter what. That's just my take!

We are currently leaning towards separating out Genisys from the rest. Could you please confirm which characters you nominated?

I nominated Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, John Connor, and Pops/The Guardian. I believe Pops was the only one separated out already, as Pops (Terminator: Genisys) or something similar; he only exists in that one movie/timeline/whatever. Hope that helps!

Please see the proposed subdivision in the next post and let us know there if you would prefer your version of Kyle Reese to appear in Genisys or (separated from Salvation) in the 1984-2009 movies category.

I realise you have been arguing all along that they are the same character, and I see logic in your argument, but this split seems to please the greatest number of nominators this year.

However, if you have a preference about where you want Kyle to go (currently, John and Sarah appear both places, and Pops of course can only fit either "Genisys" or "all movies"), we'd be happy to accommodate you.
