1. TsukiPC decided to die on me the other night, after I went to
izkariote's place for the day. I don't really know what happened, but I was burning stuff, and deleting the files that I just burned, and suddenly, my recycle bin was gone. Insert efforts put into trying to retrieve it, getting fed up, and restarting the damn thing. Unfortunately, it wouldn't boot and, in a fit of rage and misplaced optimism, I kicked the CPU.
Not my brightest moment, I know. Anyway, it stopped working after that. Fortunately, my parents were kind enough to take me and my CPU to the mall the next day, where they originally bought the thing. I was wondering why they were so willing, until I realized that because the warranty for it hadn't expired yet, they'd want to take advantage of the free service. My parents.
So it turns out the kicking loosened the RAM up, and the guy there put it back in properly. Since I was there anyway, I had them put another 2GB of RAM in. BOO YEAH, I can now burn shit while browsing the Internet! Some of you may think that 3GB of RAM may be overkill, but a) my video card doesn't have RAM of its own and leeches from my RAM, and b) I'm running on motherfucking Vista. :'D I kind of need all that I can get. I don't want to buy a new video card, though -- the most consuming thing I need it for is photoshop for
raep_time and watching anime.
2.
Of course, since I was already with my parents, I went with them grocery shopping and everything. I really missed it, grocery shopping. I firmly believe that back when I joined them for grocery shopping every Sunday, we had better food at home. This is probably because I've always been the type to say, "Oh, I want to eat this and this and this for the week," and sometimes my mother will listen and buy the ingredients for that.
Then again, we also used to have maids that knew how to cook. This one is seriously horrible, I've had to cook when I get home from work just so we wouldn't starve. But I'll get to that later.
I enjoy doing the groceries with them, though. Usually, I stick close to my mother, and my father will wander around, checking things out that catch his interest. Yesterday, he spent an inordinate amount of time eyeing grapes, until he decided to actually purchase a basket. When my mother is off wandering around in the more crowded areas of the supermarket, I stick close to my dad and we explore the exciting world of produce. Usually, we get frozen stuff that look fun to eat for breakfast (though we only have breakfast on weekends, really, and these days not even, damn maid), and thoughtfully contemplate on how this or that fruit would be nice for this or that meal. My dad and I grocery shop with good food to eat in mind. My mother does so pretty randomly, though we always have the basics, and she always thinks of things that the bad cook of a maid can actually cook. Which is hardly anything.
Obviously, I've been very bitter about this fact, because I've had to eat bread or nothing for breakfast every day the past two weeks, and Wilson is no longer around to keep me company for breakfast at work. >_>
3. On the subject of cooking: I've never really been a cook, but when we didn't have anyone to cook for us, my mother taught me the basic things one should know about cooking, aka sinigang na baboy/bangus, nilagang baka, adobo, tinola, and stir fried vegetables of all kinds. All you non-Filipinos need to know is that apart from the vegetables, all this is soup. Even my adobo is half-soup. I'm kind of actually very much a coward when it comes to frying shit, what with flying oil and stuff, so.
Lately, I've been wanting to cook more and try out more stuff. I'm kind of peculiar when it comes to recipes. I either want them extremely short or extremely detailed. When I say short, I mean "Put onion in pan, put pork in pan, fry until cooked, serve," which serves my purpose when I can bullshit the amount of spices that need to go into the food. Unfortunately, I tend to measure my spice by randomly putting it in small amounts until the taste I want is reached. : < This does not always work, trust me.
Usually, I'm too lazy to cook stuff, but I think I may bug my mother for ingredients for nilagang baka and Chinese pork adobo later. She's on vacation leave today, so she's going to do grocery shopping part 2. Part 2 being, going to every other supermarket she didn't get to go to for the week.
I feel like trying to cook ampalaya (bitter gourd) with egg. Maybe later. I remember my mother put a bunch of it in the cart yesterday, along with the ten packs of sanitary napkins (with freebies).
4. I measure the weight I gain or lose by how loose my watch gets on my wrist. It was pretty loose lately, especially when I got my period, but I've been eating everything that I can see the past weekend so... Hmm. I think all that binging left me reeling, though. My knees hurt again and my bowel movement is fucked. Also, I think I may have the beginnings of diabetes. Injuries heal a day later than they used to and all that.
The good thing with working for this company (Oh, hey, I've been here for a year tomorrow) is that the project I have has me based in a foreign bank with a really nice cafeteria. The food's not so expensive, and there are a lot of nice options every day. Also, there is a vegetarian section that I eat from thrice a week for lunch.
5. The weather's been hot lately, though it gets humid enough that it'll rain for bit, and there'll be some wind, but in general, it's kind of unbearable. My room turns into an oven around noon, which is one of the worst things to wake up to, ever. Hopefully, the hot weather avoids the weekends a bit.
6. My mother is going to apply me for a supplementary credit card thingy. For large purchases, and for when I start traveling abroad. My LJ account is going to expire soon, so good timing, mother!
7. I got accepted as John Watson of the Sherlock Holmes series on
theskytides. I keep on getting emails of other players adding his LJ, haha, OTL. I hope I play him right.
8. Reading Temeraire book 5 on e-book, while waiting for the paperback to arrive on Philippine shores. Seriously, it's never taken this long to get here. I'd like to think Temeraire is popular enough here to...
For some reason or another, I have two shirts here in the office. Stuff people give to me as souvenirs, or that one office shirt that I still haven't taken home. I got one today, a white shirt with I ♥ NY on it. Do I know anyone who went to New York? Oh, the French boss went to NY. Yay, new shirt.
