Oneshot: Christmas in February

Feb 14, 2011 10:03

Title: Christmas in February
Genre: light comedy
Pairing and Characters: Kamiki Ryunosuke/Fukuda Mayuko, most of Horikoshi 2-D boys
Disclaimers: I own nothing except plot.
Summary: A late Christmas present caused Kamiki to be troubled, while his friends learn of how dense he actually is.
Author's Note: I'm sad that I don't know any of the Horikoshi boys as much as I would've liked. ;__; I apologized for their shallow speech.

The moment Mayuko opened her door, Kamiki was already waiting for her in the early February morning. She can see his breath rise from his face as he jumped up and down, trying to fight the cold in his simple Horikoshi uniform. When he took notice of her, a smile formed at the corners of his mouth.

“Mayuko-chan!” Kamiki exclaimed, holding out a small package, “I got your present on Saturday!”

“Oh… Uh… Merry Christmas!” Mayuko said, awkwardly.

“Huh?” His smile is quickly changed into a confused frown.

“The post office sure is slow.” She continued to comment as her eyes shifted nervously.

“But it’s already February.” Kamiki said.

“I know!” Mayuko exclaimed while she shook her head in disbeliefs, “Next time, I’ll be sure to use Express Mail!”

“That’s what she said.” Kamiki sighs as he reports to his gathered friends the event happened earlier that day during the break of their class.

“And then?” Shougo, asked.

“That’s it.” Kamiki sighs once again.

“That’s it?” Jingi stares in surprised, “You don’t mean to tell us that you left after that?”

The boys’ eyes all shifts back to Kamiki, waiting for his answer, only to find Kamiki sheepishly nods.

“What were you thinking?” Shougo wailed in exasperation.

“What else should I do? She said it was a Christmas present, not a Valentine present. How am I supposed to confess like that?”

Jingi shakes his head in disappointment, while Shougo just gave a deep (and quite loud) sighs.

“You are so slow.” Chinen look at Kamiki with a pitied expression, “Look, Christmas was already 2 months ago, I doubt Fukuda-san is the type to send such thing so late.”

“But, she said it was a Christmas present.” Kamiki turns to Chinen as he points to the package in front of him.

“Did you even bother to open it?” Yuto asked.

“Yes…”

“What’s in it then?” This time, it was Yamada.

“… Chocolate.”

“And what day is today?” Shougo asked.

“… Valentine’s Day?”

The group of boys holds their breath as they look at Kamiki, waiting for him to connect the dots. But, the blank expressions on his face only leave them even more disappointed.

“Ryu,” Yamada sighs, “Surely, you don’t think that it is really a Christmas present, do you?”

“But she was so adamant about it.” Kamiki protests, “And she’s not the type to lie.”

“Did you forget that she’s an actress?” Yuto noted, “And a very good one at that?”

“Umm, what are you trying to say?” Kamiki asked, making Yuto almost smacking his head in frustration.

“The way I see it,” Chinen explains, “She probably meant for the package to arrive today, but since it arrived early, and you suddenly showed up at her door so early in the morning, she was probably overwhelm and made up that lie on the spot.”

Kamiki blinks, turning to each of his friends as they nod in agreement to the younger boy’s speculation.

“Do you get it?” Chinen asked, intonate every syllable.

Kamiki blinks once again, that can’t be. Mayuko isn’t the type to be perplexed about such things. After all, she’s straightforward. Right?

But such simple answer coming from Horikoshi 2-D’s top student, he can’t help but feel some truths to it.

After a minute, Kamiki’s troubled face finally breaks into a bright smile.

“Mayuko-chan is sooo cute!” He gushed.

His friends around him look at each other and roll their eyes.

“Idiot.” Said Yamada.

“Mr. Oblivious.” Chinen smirks.

“You’re too dense.” Yuto commented.

“I don’t know how I became friends with such a person.” Shougo shakes his head and Jingi pats his back in agreement as the boys return back to their own seats.

But such ill comments can’t wipe the smile off of Kamiki’s face, because he is too preoccupied with his Valentine present from Mayuko.

“Ah! No, not Valentine, but a very late Christmas present.” Kamiki chuckled as he takes out his keitai to send her a ‘Thank you’ message.

And also…

“HAPPY VALENTINE!!”
