A little girl was lost on the woods. She was crying because she lost sight of her father while they were hunting in the forest. Her father was a hunter and ever since she was young, she loved watching her father in action.
She heard some rustling in the bushes and she tried to be as silent as she could. When a hand came out of the bush, she almost screamed but she kept it in and prayed to the Gods to save her. Soon a body followed the said hand and she saw a smiling boy extending a hand to her.
“Hello… did you get lost in the woods?”
The little girl nodded and took the extended hand to help her get up. The boy offered to help find your father and you agreed to go with him to their tribe. “Thank you for helping me.”
Soon the two became good friends then lovers. The boy became the chief of their tribe and the girl, the tribe’s healer.

“Please go before father sees you… he’ll kill you if he does.”
“I will not leave you alone. I can’t let you get married to that man.”
A girl wearing a Victorian dress was coaxing the one she loves out of their secret meeting place. The girl was the daughter of an earl. The boy was the son of the gardener who takes care of the lady’s beloved roses.
“I do not want this any better than you my love but I’d rather marry him than let anything happen to you.”
“Come with me… I can’t give you all the riches but I assure you that I will do all that I can to make you happy.”
A tear escaped the girl’s eyes and she took the extended hand of her beloved. They haven’t gone very far when the earl’s guards caught up with them… a gunshot filled the silent night and the boy who covered his beloved took the bullet.
“Don’t leave me… you said you’ll make me happy…”
“I’m sorry… I promise to make it up to you when we meet in our next lifetime. ”
A stroke on the girl’s cheek and the boy breathed his last. She was forcibly taken away from her dead lover’s body and brought back to the mansion.
She was married the day after but her heart belonged to none other than her dead beloved. A few months later…she took her own life.
“Wait for me my beloved… we shall meet again.”

In this lifetime the boy was born as an Arabian prince and the girl as slave… the girl died from abuse and the prince married a pretty princess from another kingdom.
He kept convincing himself that he was happy, he was rich… he had a pretty wife, three beautiful kids but there was this missing part in the prince’s life that was never fulfilled until he died.

He smiled as he saw the beautiful goddess smelling the red roses on the big garden. He had been in love with her ever since he was brought to the empire as a guard. Too bad though that the girl was the emperor’s wife. He can only look and admire her from afar. The odd feeling of wanting to hold her in his arms grips his heart whenever she is near…
She met him a few moons ago… her husband assigned the young warrior as her guard because the emperor is afraid that someone would steal her away from him. Normally, the empress would just laugh that comment off but at one look at the man’s eyes and she was caught.
They loved each other but they cannot be together… it was just not meant to be, she was the empress and he was his guard. It was a forbidden love that cannot be fruitful for both sides when acted upon.

A young soldier crouched in front of a 10 year old girl. He felt a certain familiarity when the little girl smiled at him.
“Maybe I missed my sister” the young soldier thought and he petted the girl’s head.
He was surprised though when the little girl said, “Mister, come back to me after 10 years… I want to be your wife.”
For the first time since the start of the war, the young soldier laughed. He made a pinky promise with the girl before he was summoned to join his comrades to the battlefield.
Ten years later, a young lady was sitting on the park bench where he met a young soldier when she was just a little girl. She had been waiting for the last few years but her trust at the childish promise she made with the soldier never wavered.
After an hour, the lady stood… her regular 2-3 hour wait is over. She needs to get to work for now and come back the next day to wait for her soldier.
“So you have been waiting for me still?”
The lady suddenly turned and came face to face with a matured version of the soldier she had met 10 years ago. She smiled, “I keep my promises…”
The soldier smiled back, “as do I, little one. So… does your offer still stand?”
The lady scoffed, “it was not an offer mister… it was a statement.”
The soldier’s smile turned to a full laugh and the lady thought she can live all her life listening to that sweet sound. His eyes had a mischievous glint when he eventually stopped laughing, “how about we talk about that over coffee?”
“Let’s go then mister…”
The soldier took the lady’s hand, “don’t call me mister, I have a name.”
“You never told me your name…”
And their love story continued until they were both old, wasting their life on a beach side house that the soldier bought for his beloved.

She lived her life to dance… she was what she had always dreamt of since she was young, a geisha… she doesn’t care if they think she was bad woman… she doesn’t live by any rules. She had no time for love, for her it was just an obstruction for her dreams.
He was a famed general of the Shinsengumi. He was raised to follow rules… he was raised to be a killing machine working for the government. He had no capability to love or rather he never wanted to.
So what was he doing in the red light district smiling at the pretty geisha? Why was his heart beating fast whenever she is with him? Why does being together make him feel complete?
The boy contemplated and a smile from the geisha made him decide that whenever they are together, he would simply throw all the caution to the wind. They were together… he was not the Shinsengumi general… she’s not the most favored geisha in the district. They were just a boy and a girl who fell in love with each other.
Changed by love, the girl agreed to leave with the general and be his wife. She no longer wanted the fame of being the best dancer; all she wanted was to live with the boy she loves. The boy decided to resign his post as a general of the famed Shinsengumi and live at the countryside with the one he loves.
On his way back, he found smoke and flames coming out of the Okiya where his beloved geisha was staying. They were supposed to meet after she resigns so they can start their travel to their new life. The boy cannot get the dreadful feeling out of his chest as he ran to search for his beloved while the townspeople were putting the fire out.
It was too late… she was lying lifeless on the floor, a scar on her beautiful face… pools of her blood around her like bloodied wings… on her stomach lies a letter addressed to the Shinsengumi general.
He cried with anguish as his eyes found the travel cases near the door. She must have been waiting to meet with him when the rouge samurais found her.
After the funeral, the former Shinsengumi general lived his life searching for his beloved’s murderers. On the final battle, the boy died along with the person who plotted his beloved’s death.

The boy chuckled at the sight of his girl concentrating on a book she got from God knows where, her glasses elegantly perched on her small nose, brows furrowed in deep concentration, spreadsheet cursor blinking nonstop on the idle screen. The boy often wondered how on earth they got together. They were polar opposites… one patient and one notorious for having a short temper… one was adventurous and the other was laid back. A soft smile grazed the boy’s lips as he thought about the ordeals they had to go through before ending up with each other.
They were rivals in all aspects at school… for the student council presidency, for the valedictory position, the debate, sportsfest and everything else so it was a surprise for everyone when they ended up falling in love with each other.
He walked directly behind the seat of the girl and leaned using his elbows on the chair’s back rest.
“Yuki… what are you reading? Reference materials?”
The girl looked up and smiled at her boyfriend… “Yeah for a report Kim-seongsangnim wants… It’s a book about soulmates… according to this they say that you were born with someone whose soul completes yours…”
“You believe in that kind of stuff?”
Yuki stood and glared at her boyfriend, “Yah Park SangHyun! Are you trying to pick a fight with me?”
The boy waved his hands in front of his face expressing surrender at his girlfriend’s pissed face. “No honey, of course not... I just don’t believe much in those kinds of things and not that I’m mocking the great Shibuya Miyuki.”
Yuki relaxed and placed the book down followed by her glasses then welcomed the hug from the boy.
“But… isn’t it romantic to think that there is someone out there that was created just for you?”
“Hmm… I guess… should I believe it too?”
Yuki shrugged “I dunno… it depends on you… I can’t dictate what you should or should not believe in.”
Sanghyun laughed and Yuki smiled having a weird feeling of deja vu… “I think I should though… since I have found the other half of my soul in my arms right now.”
“How can you even be sure that I’m your soul mate?”
“I dunno… I just have this weird feeling that I shouldn’t let you go after I’ve waited so long.”
Yuki tsk-ed but was smiling nonetheless “You’re too cheesy for your own good.”
“But you love me even if I’m this cheesy…”
Yuki released herself from the hug “Yeah, yeah… um, want to grab something to eat? I’ve been working on that report for a while now”
“I know. Such a neglecting girlfriend, I’ve been left alone to entertain myself while you finish that report of yours.”
“Shut it Park. You don’t want me to start on the time when you won’t walk home with me cause of the basketball finals”
Sanghyun just chuckled and kept silent, grabbed their coats from the hanger and waited for Yuki to lock the door. He slipped his hand on hers as they started their walk to the convenience store a few blocks from the apartment. They basked in comfortable silence, relishing the feel of having the other close. Even without words, they can feel the connection within them that goes stronger each passing day.
Inside the locked apartment… the cursor of the spreadsheet continued to blink as it waits for the next entry…
“There are different definitions and beliefs regarding soul mates… according to Wiki... A soul mate is a person with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural
affinity,
love,
intimacy,
sexuality,
spirituality, and/or
compatibility. A related concept is that of the twin flame or twin soul - which is thought to be the ultimate soulmate, the one and only other half of one's
soul, for which all souls are driven to find and join.
There is no specific evidence that soul mates are real. Some say it was created to satisfy the romantic heart… some say it had something to do with divine intervention. For me though, when you really love someone and that person loves you back, you share half of your soul with him/her. You share the same laughter, share the same tears, share the same pain and share the same grief. You are the other’s strength as he/she is yours. “
