The world was blurring around him, sounds muffled as if he was floating under water. Dreams floated around, mixing in with reality to the point where Ryo wasn’t sure which way was up anymore. The world seemed so fuzzy that it was almost comforting. The gentle smile of Okura lying in bed during the quiet days grazed Ryo’s thoughts, the gentle caresses that drifted across Ryo’s cheek that seemed so cold right now. Slowly Okura’s eyes grew sadder, and the image began to fade. Ryo didn’t want it to disappear, wishing to stay longer in memories from a long past which a normal person would have forgotten.
But a Vampire doesn’t have that ability, forgetting is hard for them, especially when memories are practically burned into their being, after all what else did they have left to live for.
What reason did Ryo have left to live?
The pain slowly slipped back, if only Ryo could stay in the fuzziness for eternity. Floating seemed so much better than reality.
When Ryo finally gave in and opened his eyes, a fuzzy outline of the ceiling struck him as unfamiliar. He wanted to sit up, but parts of his body weren’t responding. Slowly he tipped his head to the side, hoping that he would gain a clue as to where he was. He didn’t expect Subaru to be staring back at him.
“I see you finally woke up”
Ryo opened his mouth to answer, but nothing could seem to get past his throat.
“Don’t worry your throats just dry. I’ll get you some blood to drink in a bit. Just glad to see you’re awake. You were in a horrible condition when you got here.”
Ryo frowned, trying to piece things together, but Subaru just continued to stare back at him, not offering any information as to where he was, why he was there and why he was in this reality. Ryo’s attention didn’t last long, as Yasu soon wandered into the room with another vampire in tow.
Yasu’s eyes practically lit up when he was Ryo awake, the squeal he let out was particularly an excited-Yasu type. One that Ryo had not heard in many many years.  The other vampire seemed to ignore this and walked around Ryo as if to check on something.
“Are you ok? I’m so glad you’re awake! When the team we sent out to help you came back with you so wounded, we didn’t know if you were going to make it. Thank god Junno here knew of a way to reverse the effects of the Vampire weapons". The tall guy smiled back at him out of the corner of his vision, but that was not the smile that Ryo had longed for. Slowly he closed his eyes, not really wanting to hear much more.
“Ah don’t go to sleep Ryo-chan! I’ve got something important to tell you!” Yasu desperately resisted the urge to shake Ryo. Slowly Ryo reopened his eyes; you can’t escape Yasu’s enthusiasm, no matter how hard you try.
“This Tegoshi-hunter-guy turns out to already have been on the Hunter Organisations black list. And a few days ago he was taken in by them for the unauthorised use of anti-vampire weapons, as well as exposing various clauses in the contract between vampires and hunters; such as revealing himself in front of regular people. So it looks like you won’t have to be worrying about him anymore, seeing as the hunter organisation have him now. You and Okura can just settle down now and not have to worry about anything.” Yasu smiled brightly at him.
Slowly Ryo groaned, the effort hurting his throat. But regardless of the pain, Ryo quietly managed to force out a weak voice that had Yasu’s smile freezing before slowly dropping off his face.
“…Okura…left…”
Yasu glanced worryingly at Subaru, who simply shrugged, before glancing back at Ryo.
“Okura was nowhere to be found, we assumed you got him to run and hide.” Slowly Ryo shook his head and Yasu frowned.
A long silence followed, no one quite knowing how to address the current state of affairs.
“You should be able to move again in a few minutes Nishikido” Junno piped in happily, Ryo was a bit surprised by how easily he misread the silence. He slowly turned to look at him, but he was still smiling ear to ear, not taking any note at the weight of the situation, or if he did, he didn’t show it.
“We’ll let you get a bit more rest Ryo-chan. And hopefully I’ll see you again in a bit. Once you’re ready, I think we should all have a long chat.” With that Yasu carefully turned away from him, taking Subaru with him. A few moments later Junno walked out with a little wave and a slightly worried expression.
As soon as Ryo could move again, he left. He was tired of dealing with all of this, tired of having to run here and there, tired of the strange looks that people sometimes gave him.
Slowly he wandered back, his apartment in Tokyo was thankfully not cleared out and the landlord even looked a little relived as he spotted Ryo weakly making his way up the stairs. All he wanted to do was fall down on his bed and shut out the world for a while, maybe even forever.
The ups and downs in the last few years have worn him out and he wasn’t sure he could continue on like this anymore. As his face hit the pillow, he was already half way to dream worlds, lazy afternoons and soft smiles. Who cares if Yasu realised that he had left and was probably not coming back.
Ryo snuggled into his memories, the feather touches of days long gone drifted over his skin and the tender brush of butterfly kisses he never knew he missed so much enveloped him. He hummed lightly, but quickly frowned when he realised that the sun was drawing him away from his dreams and coaxing him back into reality.
He rolled over, opening his eyes to the gently gaze of Okura and gently smiled.
He wanted no other reality as he carefully wound his arms around the warmth.

“We should talk you know, but I’m happy staying like this for a moment” The sweet voice drifted to his ears, as Ryo slowly started to open his eyes, already steeling himself for seeing nothing but his empty bed.
When Okura’s face greeted him back, he nearly swore he died and entered a world of eternal memories. But Okura never visited this room in his memories.
