Our Last Break of Dawn
And as your arms surround me,
With a warmth that kills me even more,
The first ray of dawn caresses thee.
The darkness engulfs my sight,
But our souls the sky soar
As the day breaks, as always, bright.

As your breath lightly my cheek warms,
Your arms around me you tight.
The slow loss of life we mourn
As the darkness feeds on me, as I fight.
And as the day breaks around us,
I breathe in as I lose my sight.

You whisper softly in my ear
Words I don’t want to know,
For they make it harder as I leave
And the tears I spill show.

But I whisper back, just as slow,
As your hand I coldly grasp.
I just can’t let you go,
Not yet, not ever, not this fast.

So, with a last longing and conformed sigh,
But in your arms warmed and tight,
Listening to your heart as we kiss goodbye,
I slowly, but surely, die.
