“Sungmin hyung, do you mind if I asked you something?” Eunhyuk asked as he cuddled up with his hyung.
“What is it, Hyukkie?” Sungmin replied quietly.
Eunhyuk sighed before facing his hyung. “Would you fall in love with your best friend even though he’s in love with someone else?”
Sungmin was shocked by the question. Could the younger know his secret? He had been in love with their dancer ever since but he knew that Eunhyuk’s eyes were only for Donghae. When he didn’t reply, Eunhyuk sighed again then stood up.
“Hyung, I think he’s in love with Kibum.” Eunhyuk stated sadly.
Sungmin mentally sighed in relief. “Did Hae tell you that himself?”
“He didn’t have to; I could see it.”
“You may be seeing the wrong things.” Sungmin said. ‘Like how you can’t see that I’m so in love with you.’
“I don’t think so, hyung. Do you see how happy he is when he’s with Kibum? How his smile always widens even when Kibum isn’t doing anything?”
‘Eunhyuk ah, do you see how happy I am when I’m with you? How I can’t help my smile even when all you talk about is Donghae?’
“Kibum confides to him what he doesn’t share to the other members. It’s just so frustrating but when they’re together, it’s like they’re in their own world.”
‘You know everything about me, my dear Hyukkie. I feel like it’s just the two of us when we’re like this.’
“I want to be the one that makes Lee Donghae smile. I want to be the reason for his happiness.”
‘I wish for the same thing, Eunhyuk. I want to always be there for you, but more than your best friend.’
Eunhyuk noticed that his hyung wasn’t saying anything and shook Sungmin. “Yah, hyung! Staring at me isn’t going to do anything!”
Sungmin shook himself out of his sad stupor and smiled at Eunhyuk. “Maybe you should confess to him, hyukkie. You never know; he might like you back.”
Eunhyuk blushed then looked down at the floor. “How can i confess to him? He’s always with Kibum these days.”
“Let your hyung help you.” Sungmin said with a smile though it broke his heart.
Eunhyuk smiled his famous gummy smile and Sungmin thought he was melting into a puddle of goo. The younger tightly hugged his hyung and muttered something about being the best hyung ever. After a while, Eunhyuk pulled away and gave one last peck on the cheek before running off to find Donghae. Sungmin just stood there and willed himself not to cry. He should have been used to this; how many times had he been rejected without Eunhyuk knowing so? The pink lover was trying not to break down when a pair of arms closed around him.
“Why do you have to be so stupid? You should stop hurting yourself.” The person said while bringing Sungmin to his chest to cry.
Sungmin let his walls crumble down and cried. “Kyuhyun, why does it hurt so much?”
“It’s because you won’t let him go. You won’t allow yourself to at least try finding someone else.” Kyuhyun said in a somewhat pleading tone.
“I can’t, Kyuhyun ah. Hyukjae’s the only one for me.” Sungmin said with finality and wiped his wet eyes.
Kyuhyun looked at his hyung, trying to send him some sort of signal but it was obviously no use. He patted his hyung’s head one last time before finding something else to do. Sungmin went to his bedroom and tried thinking of ways on how to separate Kibum from Donghae. He purposely erased all thought of Eunhyuk from his mind since he didn’t want to cry anymore but it was no use. In the end, he ended up lying on his bed to daydream about his beloved anchovy.
“Sungmin ah, wake up. Dinner’s ready.” Yesung gently shook his dongsaeng up.
Sungmin rubbed his eyes cutely and pouted. “Hyung, I’m still sleepy.”
Yesung couldn’t help but coo at the cuteness and pinched the younger’s cheek. “Kyaa! Our Sungminnie really is the cutest! Anyway,
Heechul hyung had actually been calling for you a couple minutes ago. You know that we shouldn’t keep our diva waiting.”
Sungmin laughed and grinned at his hyung. “Let’s go then. We wouldn’t want ddangkoma to be roasted tomorrow.”
Yesung pulled him out of bed and they started heading to the dining room. “I knew you loved my Ddang too.”
“Speaking of things that are yours, when are you going to ask Kibum out? I’ve been waiting but nothing’s happening.” Sungmin asked cheekily.
“Y-yah! Sungmin ah, you promised not to tell on me!!!” Yesung argued while blushing beet red.
“I wasn’t telling on you; I was asking.” Sungmin replied. “Why don’t you ask him out this weekend? You both have no schedules, right?”
During dinner, Yesung did finally get the courage to ask Kibum if he wanted to do something this weekend through a lot of stuttering and awkward sounds and both of them blushing. In the end, Kibum did say yes and Eunhyuk quickly looked over to Sungmin and smiled so bright that his eyes were sparkling. Sungmin just nodded at him with a smile of his own and turned his head away as he saw the younger pulling his chair even closer to Hae.
“Eunhyukkie, let’s have our own date too! I’m jealous of Bummie and Yesungie hyung!” Donghae exclaimed after eating.
Heechul laughed. “Are you jealous of the date? Or are you jealous because Yesung is the one with Kibum?”
“What do you mean, hyung?” Donghae’s eyebrows scrunched up. “Of course I’m jealous of the date! I already know that this is what Bummie wi-“
Kibum blushed and stared at the pillow he just threw. “Shut up, Lee Donghae.”
“My precious dongsaengs are growing up. I’m so proud. Anyway, Eunhyuk, you really should take this annoying fish out. He keeps on bothering me and Hannie.” Heechul said while clinging to Hangeng’s arm.
Donghae in turn clutched on to Eunhyuk’s sleeve tightly. “Hyukkie, let’s go! People are so mean here.” Then he stuck out his tongue and dragged the blushing anchovy away.
Once the two was out of sight, Hangeng patted Sungmin’s back. “Will you be alright?”
“yeah, i guess.” Sungmin whispered. “I’m the one who planned it anyway.”
Hangeng’s face was contorted to a look of admiration and shock.
“Don’t worry, hyung. I’m happy for him.”
“You’re too nice, Min. You should at least fight for him fairly.”
Sungmin smiled a sad smile. “Why fight when you know it’s a lost cost? Anyway, I have a lot of schedule this weekend. I’ll be so busy I won’t have time to think of him.”
The weekend passed by without Sungmin really noticing with all his busy schedules. He barely saw anyone else besides their manager and even though he was dead tried, a small part of him still wondered how the two dates went. For Yesung and Kibum, he hoped that it went well and for Eunhyuk and Donghae . . . He didn’t know if he wanted it to succeed or not. He wants to be a nice hyung and say that he hoped it worked out also but he doesn’t want to lie. With guilt travelling in his body, he trudged up to his bedroom quickly. He was surprised when someone tightly hugged him from behind.
“Hyung! How are you?” Eunhyuk excitedly asked.
Sungmin spun around. “I’m fine, Hyukkie. Why are you still up?”
“I was waiting for you, hyung! I have something to tell you.” Eunhyuk grinned broadly.
Oh, God, no. Sungmin kept his face straight. “Go on.”
“Donghae asked me to be his boy friend! Isn’t that great? Hyung, I’m finally with the one I love and it’s all thanks to you! Thank you so
much!” Eunhyuk squealed excitedly and started jumping up and down.
Sungmin felt tears pricking his eyes but still tried to smile. “I-I’m happy for you guys.”
“Thanks, hyung. It couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for you.”
“Don’t say that.” Sungmin admitted honestly.
‘Huh? Why not? It’s true.” Eunhyuk looked confused. Then he said something unexpected. “I love you, hyung. You’re the best hyung I could ever hope for.”
Sungmin could hear the silent breaking of his heart. The words he wanted to hear. . . Eunhyuk finally said them. “yeah, I love you too, Eunhyuk.” Sungmin’s vision was getting clouded with tears. “I have to go to bed now. I’m really tired.”
“Sure. Hae’s probably looking for me, too.” Eunhyuk said as he turned around to head back.
Sungmin walked to his bed with trembling legs and cried the whole night. Sometime along the night, Kyuhyun plopped down beside him and just hummed for him until his sobs would quiet down.
“You have to stay strong, Sungmin hyung.” Kyuhyun murmured while kissing the top of his hyung’s head.
Sungmin nodded and scooted closer to his dongsaeng. He had to be strong; he was going to face the new couple tomorrow.
“What is it, Hyukkie?” Sungmin replied quietly.
