Summary: The combination of a girl that never thought the person she loved would notice her and a guy; the most popular guy at school but isn’t at all what he seems.
Note: I have not specified or mentioned the name of the main male character in this story; I have decided to leave it up to anyone that actually reads this to place themselves in the position of the girl and tell me who they think the male character is :)
PART TWO
After a few hours of a bus ride, we arrived in front of a small yet comfortable and cosy looking motel that faced the vast ocean. It was right next to rock pools as well as a small town with a huge fish market. After a round of instructions from the teacher about curfews and proper behaviour, everyone rushed inside to dump their bags in their rooms and practically ran to the beach. I slowly made my way inside, lucky for me, I had specifically asked for a room to myself; the teacher could see that I didn’t fit in with the others in the class and year. After I thanked the reception for the key, I made my way to the lift; boys were all located on the first floor and girls on the second floor. While I waited, I saw a glimpse of him as he went to the reception to pick up his key. No, not again, I thought, rapidly and repeatedly pressing the up button in hope that it would somehow make the lift come down quicker. The doors slowly opened as I practically ran inside and hit the close button; the doors closed just as I saw him begin to walk towards where the first floor rooms were. Thank god.
My room was the best. It had a large screen door which lead to a small balcony facing the ocean. The bed was a single but it had a soft fluffy pillow and sheets. I loved it. I changed into my shorts and headed down to beach with my camera. I was not planning on swimming at all, I hated swimming ever since I was a little kid, my dad got bitten by a shark and my mum died drowning. Swimming; ocean; water left me all alone with no family and painful memories.
Wow, this is so beautiful, I thought taking a picture of a starfish I had just found on the sides of the rock pools. It was a beautiful day; cloudless sky and warm weather, for once I thought this trip could be something worthwhile.
That night, the teacher’s set up a bonfire on the beach; it was beautiful, from what I could see from my window. There was no way that I was about to sit down with the rest of my year while they played their silly little games like Spin the Bottle. From my spot on the balcony, I took a picture of the lovely night view of the ocean.
After the bonfire was put out and most of the year had returned to their rooms, I walked out of the motel and sat on the soft sand on the beach. Lying back, I looked up at the night sky and tried to find constellations, yes I am that much of a nerd. There’s Andromeda and Pegasus, I thought, pointing to each one as I located it, just as I was about to point to Aquila, a head appeared out of nowhere.
“Oh!” I gasped, surprised. Right after this reaction, I realised who it was, I sat up quickly only to collide right into his head.
“Ow…” he said rubbing his head.
“I’m so sorry,” I said, looking apologetic.
“I wonder why every time we see each other, you end up hitting me and saying sorry,” he said, smiling to himself. What act is this? I thought, isn’t he meant to get angry? Why isn’t he going away? Why is he talking to me? Why is he sitting down next to me?! I looked bewildered as he sat down casually before lying down with his back against the sand.
“Isn’t the sky pretty tonight?” he asked, his eyes still transfixed on the night sky. I nodded, daring not to speak, still trying get over the fact he was sitting right next to me.
“Shouldn’t you be somewhere other than here, possibly with…” it was hard to even mention it, “shouldn’t you be with Aiko?” I asked, unable to look at him.
“Why would you say that?”
“Aren’t you two going out…?” I muttered, hoping he didn’t hear me.
“No, we’re not going out,” he said a matter of factly before he closed his eyes. I sneaked a peek at him. Under the soft light from the motel, he looked so peaceful, his skin was so smooth and looked so soft and…What am I doing? I turned away just before a loud shriek rang through my ears. What was that? I turned towards the source of sound only to find Aiko stamping towards me, rapidly sending me death glares.
“What do you think you are doing!?” She screamed, “What have your parents taught you about not stealing and taking things that are not yours!?”
I was getting pissed. “What had this got to do with my parents?!”
“You can insult me all you like, but what my parents teach me had nothing to do with you and you have no right to question what they have and haven’t taught me!” I said, steaming. He put his hand on my shoulder, trying to calm me down.
“Aiko, last time I checked I didn’t belong to you; I can talk to and sit with whoever I want,” he said, urging me to sit back down. I didn’t budge; I just kept staring at her.
“Just ignore her,” he whispered in my ear. At hearing his voice so close, my knees weakened and practically buckled underneath me. From the corner of my eye, I saw Aiko storm off with her followers as well a pack of boys following closely behind her.
“You probably shouldn’t have done that…” I muttered, pulling my knees up to my chest.
“It’s okay. It doesn’t really matter, she’s really annoying anyway,” he responded, not looking at me.
“Un...”
Everything was still again. I realised that we were alone again. I sighed but he didn’t notice, instead he took something out.
“I think this is yours,” he said, handing a small A3 book to me.
“Oh, my photo album; guess I must have dropped it,”
“Did you take those photos?” he asked turning his head to look at me. I blushed, turning away quickly, hoping that he didn’t see. He chuckled softly.
“I guess that’s a yes?”
“Yeah…” I said, plucking up the courage to turn to face him; I looked right into his eyes.
“They’re beautiful.”
“What is..?” I questioned, he wasn’t talking about my eyes was he? I was starting to hyperventilate.
“…the photos, they’re really good,” Whew, I thought, he’s not talking about me. Wait, what? My brain was processing a lot slower than usual.
“When I look at them, there’s a sense of tranquillity, like everything around me has just stopped…like time’s stood still for that one photo or picture.”
“Really?” I said, opening my album to the first picture which showed a sunset sky with clouds.

Same as that other night, my head was full of him. His face, his hand on my shoulder, his voice in my ear; it was all too much at once. My eyes were wide open until the first signs of the morning.
