Selfishness Issues (OnRi oneshot)
Jong Hyun walked across the smooth marble floor, eyes closed and half-asleep. Upon reaching the vending machine, he heard the clunk of a can falling onto the receiving area. He forced his eyes open, took one hand out of his pocket, and bent down to get hold of the drink.
“Yah!” someone shouted. “I’m sorry but this is mine.”
His senses were awakened and he felt a slight pain on a small area of his head. Fully alert, he stood up straight and saw a young man bowing.
“Ah, yeah,” he said and put a hand to the back of his neck in embarrassment. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”
“Jong Hyun?” the young man spoke and straightened himself. He smiled.
“Seung Ri-ah!” Jong Hyun laughed. “You don’t know how glad I am to see you!”
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Seung Ri readjusted his fingers on the can of iced coffee he held.
“Yeah, and now I’m less embarrassed with what I did.”
Seung Ri chuckled. “I’m sure bumping your head woke you up. What are you doing here?”
“Ah, my group’s practicing in one of the rooms here. This is where we’re sent to if all the practice rooms in the agency building are occupied. And you?”
“We’re about to film for a show. Hey, would you mind if I drop by later on?”
“No, of course not! I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
Seung Ri grinned. “Great. I’ll call when I’m free. Right now my hyungs are demanding for their coffee.”
Jong Hyun leaned a little to his left. Past Seung Ri, the four older members of Big Bang were looking his way with serious expressions. They looked almost angered to see their maknae mingling with him.
Seung Ri turned to look at them and raised a hand. Immediately, they looked away.
“Don’t mind them,” Seung Ri said with amusement in his eyes. “They’re just really tired. They’re probably saving their cheery selves for the filming. And between you and me,” He leaned closer, as if to share a big secret. “They’ve got member-selfishness issues, especially for their youngest.” He leaned back and grinned.
Jong Hyun chuckled. “Well, I’ll be seeing you later, alright?”
Seung Ri nodded and rushed back to his group, four cans in hand.
The four SHINee members became silent when they heard a knock on their slightly opened practice room door.
“Knock, knock. I’m sorry for intruding! May I come in?” It was Seung Ri.
Jong Hyun stood up from his spot on the floor and ran across the room. “Hey, Seung Ri!”
Big Bang’s maknae smiled at him. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” He looked around and stepped into the room.
“Nah, we’re just taking a little break. How was filming?”
Seung Ri chuckled. “We spent ten minutes talking about me again.”
Kibum, Minho, and Taemin were staring at him in silence.
“Oh yeah, Seung Ri.” Jong Hyun pulled the three younger members closer. “These are Kibum, I think you know him as Key, Minho, and Taemin. Boys, say hi.” He laughed.
The three were still silent.
Seung Ri let out a small laugh. “Nice to meet you guys. I’m Big Bang’s Lee Seung Hyun. Call me Seung Ri.”
Kibum nodded. “We finally get to meet you. Jong Hyun couldn’t stop talking about you ever since this mo-phhh-”
“Shut up, Kibum!” Jong Hyun covered his buddy’s mouth with his hand.
Kibum glared at him.
Seung Ri turned to Taemin. “You’re the group’s maknae, right? Treasure the status. They’ll come babying you any time now.”
Taemin laughed. “I’d love to see that happen.”
“Hey,” Minho spoke up. “Where’s Jinki hyung?”
“I got you guys water!” a new voice spoke.
Seung Ri turned around and came face to face with SHINee’s leader, Lee Jinki, who was carrying a plastic bag of water bottles in one hand and his own half-empty water bottle in the other.
Jinki stopped and stared at him. Placing the bag on the floor, he bowed. “You are… Seung Ri sunbae, right?”
Seung Ri bowed slightly. “I am, but why are you calling me ‘sunbae’? I’m from a different agency, plus you’re older than me.” He grinned.
Still awestruck, Jinki smiled faintly. “Technically you’re my senior.”
Seung Ri’s grin widened. “True, but debuting aside, I should be calling you ‘hyung.’”
Jong Hyun smiled and bounced over to Jinki. “Seung Ri, this is Lee Jinki, better known as Onew.”
“Nice to meet you.” Seung Ri bowed again.
“Likewise.” Jinki mustered up a grin. “We finally get to meet the famed ‘Strong Baby’ of Big Bang. Jong Hyun couldn’t stop talking about you.”
“Jinki!” Jong Hyun whined and pouted. He turned to Seung Ri. “Don’t mind them, they just love teasing me.”
“But you know it’s true, hyung,” Minho piped up.
“Hey! Not you too!”
Seung Ri laughed. “How’s practice going along?”
“We were just about to rehearse Replay again.”
“Oh, I like that song. The dance is pretty good too. Would you mind if I dance along? Though my steps differ from yours, I’d also love to see your dancing maknae’s talent up close.” He smiled at Taemin. “What do you say?”
“Um, sure,” the youngest boy in the room mumbled bashfully.
“Is that okay with you guys?” Seung Ri asked the four other members.
Minho and Kibum nodded and stepped aside. Jong Hyun grinned, but Jinki crossed his arms over his chest with a frown.
“We really need to practice,” he said.
“Oh come on, Jinki!” Jong Hyun said to him. “A few minutes isn’t going to matter. Give Seung Ri his time.”
“Jong Hyun! A few minutes does matter! You told us so last time!”
“Yes well,” the younger boy looked away. “Last time we didn’t have a special guest with us.”
Seung Ri chuckled. “It’s alright. You guys take your time. I’ll watch from the sides.”
“Thank you.” Jinki said and went to the center of the room.
Jong Hyun frowned but joined them at the center when Kibum pulled him by the hand.
Seung Ri found himself smiling for the whole duration of the song. Their singing was amazing, and so was the dance. He looked at Taemin and was awed by his enthusiastic dancing. He watched Kibum and Minho during their turns up front. He laughed at Jong Hyun who couldn’t stop smiling and kept glancing at him from the mirror. But the one person he couldn’t stop looking at was Jinki-leader.
Jinki was more serious than his younger members. He had a straight face, and Seung Ri could tell that he was still pissed off. Was that his fault?
The next song began to play right after Replay and Jong Hyun stopped the music.
“Shall we run the music again for you?” he offered with a smile.
Jinki glared at him while Kibum, Minho, and Taemin chuckled at how affectionate he was being with Seung Ri.
“No, no,” Seung Ri politely declined. “You guys are on a roll. I hope it’s all right with you guys that I’m still here.”
Jinki didn’t move and the rest nodded.
“I’m sorry, Seung Ri, but you’re kind of a distraction,” their leader told him straight up. “Especially to this fan boy here.” He gestured to Jong Hyun.
“Jinki!” Jong Hyun whined again. “I did all my parts properly! Can’t you see that Seung Ri’s a friend and a guest here?” He walked up to Seung Ri and placed a hand to his shoulder. “You should be happy he took the time to come here! His Big Bang hyungs must have thought long and hard about letting him come here!”
“Um,” Seung Ri interrupted. “Actually I didn’t tell them I’d be coming here. They would have refused if I did. Like what I told Jong Hyun, they have selfishness issues, so they don’t really like me mingling with other performers.”
They all stared at him, especially Jinki who was now glowering.
Bzzz bzzz
Seung Ri’s phone vibrated in his pocket and he stood up. “I’ll just take this call.”
Jinki rolled his eyes and looked away.
“Lee Seung Ri, where in the world are you?” Ji Yong’s loud voice rang in the room.
Seung Ri lowered his phone from his ear and activated the loudspeaker. “Oh, hey Ji Yong hyung!”
Jinki turned back to him with eyes wide.
“Yah! Maknae!” Seung Hyun yelled. “Don’t you know that it’s rude to just slip away from us? What kind of person are you?”
“Seung Ri, where are you? You could have told us before leaving,” Young Bae spoke up in his gentle, motherly voice.
“Maknae!” Dae Sung chirped in. “We’re leaving in a while! Do you want to walk back to the hostel?”
“B-Big Bang?” Jinki couldn’t help but squeak.
Seung Ri nodded and smiled.
Jinki’s jaw dropped.
“Maknae?” Ji Yong came back. “Who’s that? Who are you with?”
“Oh, that was Lee Jinki-leader of SHINee. I’m with the group right now. Didn’t you see me talking with Jong Hyun this morning?”
“SHINee?” the four older members said at once.
“Lee Seung Ri, why didn’t you tell us you were meeting up with them? Where are you? Where are they! I want to meet them! I want to see Onew-leedah!”
Big Bang’s maknae chuckled. “What happened to your selfishness issues, hyung? I thought you didn’t want to share me with others.”
“Shut up, Ri!” Seung Hyun bellowed. “Where are they? Are they in the same building? What room?”
“I’m not telling you. They’re my friends,” Seung Ri teased. “I’ll be down in the lobby in a while. See you!” Laughing to himself, he ended the call and placed the phone back down in his pocket.
He looked at each member of the group and stopped at Jinki, looking into his eyes. “It seems that my hyungs are willing to accept you after all.”
AN: So this is for orenjimaru as this is her request~ Yay! I know it's supposed to be Onew x Seung Ri, but it turned out more like Jong Hyun x Seung Ri, didn't it? Well, I'm Jong Hyun biased. Go blame me. Okay, to those who didn't get the gist of this story, Big Bang is like Ri's family, right? And you know how families are when they have their "child" mingling with other people--they become over-protective and whatnot. Anyway, it turns out that BB is a big fan of SHINee so they're willing to accept them as Ri's friends. As for where the OnRi comes in, that's going to be up to you to imagine. LOL Though the ending reminds me of some kind of marriage thing.
