Jews were flooding the place. They were coming united in big companies and alone, young and aged, all dressed up and shy, I was smiling greeting them, joking, when I have suddenly understood that there are too many people. During thirty minutes, from 6p.m. till 6.30p.m. the checkroom was completely full. We were out of coat racks so we had to put clothes on the floor to hang it anyhow, using devices that were brought by our technician - magician. Tags and order were out of the question. I've imagined how are we going to return all these clothes to their owners and I've felt dizzy... At that time, the guards were defending the gates... the crowd kept on its pressing and we have decided to let them in by three and I kept on thinking:"What am I to do now?" To close the club for those who is still outside meant to discomfort them or to let them ALL in and then let it be, let them destroy the place! Who do I love more - my place or my people(jews)? I let them all in...
An amazing Israel music was playing, people's faces were shining with happiness... I tried not to look to the bar. There were not enough waitresses, an educated jewish youth was standing in three rows around the bar, hoping to get long-expected booze. Forget that! There were only two bartenders! (We thought that 200, maybe 250 people will come, we were not expecting more than 500 people to come, oh abrots'hi mir!) Jews are always jews! I've felt dizzy even more when I saw how those smartest asses near the bar were reselling vodka and juices to ones who couldn't reach the bar. A commercial way of thinking(of course they were having a great profit)!
I've appreciated someone's creativity but I'm a jew myself so I couldn't let anyone to fuck with me:) I caught a probationer who was running around and I told her to pour out juices and waters and to call it "a drink on the house". Jews were grateful and the problem was temporarily solved.
Remembering all the time that a huge crowd is standing on the front door, keeping hope to get in on their mind, I have received stunning news from my helpers and requests from the people who helped me to manage everything that "12 journalists (half of them are foreigners) are coming and it is OBLIGATORY to find a place for them all"..."We have already 55 people enlisted for those reserved tables, WHERE DO WE FIND THOSE GOD DAMN TABLES?"... "A journalist wants some beer, otherwise she won't write anything good about the party!"... "We need more guards here to lead Trahtenberg through the crowd to the stage"... "Guards here NOW to lead him back"... "The table on the balcony wants headwaiter to come, they were brought half-dry instead of half-sweet"...
What was the most weird and exciting about everything happening was the fact that people LIKED EVERYTHING!!! They were dancing their asses off, singing jewish songs, flirting... It is true that how you meet people matters how they feel after being your guest! When I was on the stage as one of the people who managed the event, I said, that I am very happy too see all these people. I've added using hebrew:"Shalom everybody I love you all" and hurried off the stage not to start using foul language...
Now we know EVERYTHING!!! We need five more people in the checkroom, eight bartenders and thirty three waiters! And all jews tat will come will be happy! Finally I'll have a chance to meet interesting people, to find a husband - that was the aim of it all!:) Next time...
