The Truth overrated?

Apr 04, 2008 07:02

I recently read this article: http://men.msn.com/articlees.aspx?cp-documentid=6564498>1=32001.  It mentions that a truth is overrated and that self disillusionment is necessary for happiness.  I find myself wondering what Conan/Shinichi would think if he read that.

Dear GODS what a defeatist, horrible article. I don't know whether to feel more disgusted or sorrier regarding the writer's outlook-- he's going to spend the rest of his life believing a lie and knowing that that's what he's doing. Who says the world is mostly a 95% empty glass? He does; I don't, and I don't believe it at all and never, ever will. The world is, from second to second, full, half-full, empty, overflowing... infinitely changing, over and over and over. The pure fact that this guy managed to publish an article that says something like that just totally fucked over any respect I'll ever have for his editors.

Sorry about soapboxing; it's just-- that guy has a perfect right to his own beliefs and all, but... man, I read that and every bit of me totally rebelled. That's horrible. And he's a proponent of self-delusion as a lifestyle? Moron. Somebody (Lincoln, I think) said something once about how calling a dog's tail a 'leg' didn't give you a 5-legged dog-- this idiot needs to learn how to see, not how to tie on a pretty ( ... )

I'm impressed. I didn't expect such an impassioned response first thing in the morning. I was just thinking of how Shinichi would react if he read it. XD

Actually I'm glad to hear what someone else thinks. Personally, I don't agree with the guy but it is an interesting take on things and I have a habit of looking for real world inspiration for fan fics.

I hope it didn't sour your day. I'll look for something amusing to post to counteract it.

**waves** Nah, nah, didn't sour my day in the least, and I'm sorry about the soapboxing; it just hit one of my particular buttons, the one labeled 'Dear Gods, Somebody PAID This Idiot For This?' I've believed my whole life that a person creates a lot of their own wins or losses in the world by how they see it, as in if you view things as doomed already (like this guy) then the chances of you making it better drop like crazy. And for this jerk to tell us that "Hey, it's all shit anyway so why not put on rose-colored shades and join me in believing a lie?" made me wonder how many people'll buy into that asinine system and spend the rest of their lives putting on blindfolds because they think it's dark out and so not being able to see won't matter anyway, will it? AAAGH.

Don't worry; think I needed something to get me moving today. **hugs**

Don't worry about it. I could tell it wasn't aimed at me.

Don't worry; think I needed something to get me moving today.
The silver lining! XD

(lurker at lurk)

How Shinichi would react? Having a tantrum...without realizing that he's more or less acting like the author of this article?
After all, this mor... guy is blindfolded by his own pride more often that not.Xp XD;

And for the article itself, well, I don't get what is the big deal. The formulation is maybe not the better that you could find, but I'm more or less agreing with the guy.

We're using unfounded belief in our everyday life to deals with the world and are always making biased selection in the thing we see, to keep the one we're acknowledging, because we're living beeings before to be rational beeings.

And if we were skipping the opinion which are just probable and not firm as diamond, and were refusing opinion which are refuted by the world, it would be hard to move forward.

Maybe that "beliefs" or "probable but not certain opinion" soudnds better that lies for some people, but well...

What's truth anyway?(shrug)

XDDD You have a good point about the way he'd act.

*shrug* I read the article and thought it'd be fun to share, to see how people reacted. In my opinion, well, I agree and disagree with him. With some things, it's okay to lie to yourself but, other times, you must be brutally truthful with yourself. I see his point but I don't really agree with it.

And, for some reason, it made me chuckle. Just a bit.

I have lurkers?!

Well, it's the consequence for your life which matters the most, when you should chose if a statment(no matters if it's a "truth" or a "lie") is worth to be believed or not ( ... )

He's found his truth. It's up to every indivudual to find their own. It may not be true for other people but will work for that person. If he's happier thinking that most people are deluding themselves and will do so with them, that's his belief.

(If I remember correctly, Nietzsche wrote his stuff to kiss up to one of the great families. It didn't work. XD I know some of Hume but forgot it. ^^; It's been a few years since my political philosphy class)

Woo! One lurker is cool. I admit, I too lurk on the friends pages of my f-list on occasion.
(what can I say, they need more love.)
