It got down to 17 degrees F here last night and it's 20 degrees this morning. No, that's not as cold as it is in many, many places in the north, I do realize that. But, you know, Tucson being a desert city and all, we weren't entirely PREPARED for a dramatic drop overnight.....
.....and therefore I woke up to find I have no water.
Nada, zip, nyet, nain, none. Turns out that the chill caused multiple electronic failures of equipment at our reservoirs and made the damn things shut down. The city's working to fix 'em, but I'm smack in the middle of the affected area.
Oh well; could be so much worse. I mean, the power's on and I'm warm, right? My pets are safe and have drinking-water enough right now; if the power went out I'd be in deep, very icy shit very fast. Deserts are weird; because they have so little moisture (our humidity's at 20% this morning to match the temp and is actually slightly high for this time of year) there's hardly any cloud-cover and all our heat bleeds away as soon as the sun drops below the horizon. ALL of it; it's like a big switch got flipped. So desert nights are cold, cold, coldcoldcold.
Man, it better warm up a touch. I'm gonna be camping in this in little more than a week's time. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
In other stuff... Couldn't sleep last night, so-- well, y'all know how I mentioned that I needed a case for my Neo?
I found a pattern for sale on Etsy for a Kindle3 that was about the right size, added a touch of length to it, bought fabric on the way home last night, and voila:
Not bad, if I say so myself.
It was a little tricky to get everything turned and sewn through; the fabric's padded and interfaced and fairly stiff. This is Mark I, not the final product; Hyp's got a little stylus hidden in her upper left corner that has to be accessible and isn't, so I'll make a Mark II version with a pocket-style band rather than a corner for the upper right-- that way the stylus'll be accessible without my having to untuck that corner (which is a bitch to do, because the pattern *also* needs to be just a touch wider and longer. That's okay; got plenty of fabric and so forth.)
Anyway, it'll do for now. Think I'll add a flap to curl over the edge on the next version.
**sigh** Right.... time to figure out my clothes for work, get dressed, and face the world. I'd love to stay home today, but that's not gonna happen-- it's a pity I can't call in for lack-of-enthusiasm-plus-desire-to-stay-home-and-sew-and-write. So it goes. Y'all have a good day, okay?
