SHINEY!

I haz a bluetooth.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm last place in the technology race and all that, shut up. I finally got one, okay? And I admit, I'm kind of impressed; I could hear my brother Bill pretty clearly, even on his crappy phone with the crappy Florida reception that he has to go out onto his balcony to get to work at ALL.  ^_^  I got a decent mid-range version by Samsung from the T-Mobile store and they guy there hooked it right up; seems to work just fine.

I am in full clean/reorganize-the-damned-apartment mode, and as such am running extra tired and more than a little frazzled. And I had a nice little epiphany the other night, to wit:  when I am tired and missing the occasional clue, having my nose rubbed in this makes me massively, massively cranky; scared, too. Why?  Because I watched my mom go from an intelligent, thinking person to someone who was incapable of eating with a spoon or brushing her own hair. Or remembering what day of the week it was.  Or who her children were, or who she was, or that she wasn't four years old... and man, that'll hard-wire a fear of personal stupidity in you like nobody's business.  I guess the fear of going the same route is probably in every member of my family right now; how not? I've talked about it this week to several related and non-related people both on the phone and at work, and... yes.  That reaction is pretty much the norm when you've seen severe dementia in a parent, you get cranky and terrified of losing it yourself.  If I ever learn that I'm going to be inevitably in the same state-- well.  Time to look into legal euthanasia laws.  We live and learn; or we try, anyway.  Enough of this, though; it's a serious subject, but understanding the whys and wherefores helps and puts the lid on it, at least for now.  More cheerful things:  next week is vacation!  nightengale  and sorchafyre  will be visiting for a week or so; we're going caving and getting massages and doing TusCon 27 and hitting some thrift stores (I wanna go to the Lost Barrio downtown; never been there) and doing as much general goofing off as possible.  I'm a touch worried about my car since it *did* overheat week before last, but it hasn't done it since; I'll have the fluids checked and the radiator cap looked at.  Gotta turf the thing out, too, it's a rolling trashmobile right now.  I'm so glad they're coming, though; I've never actually met sorchafyre face-to-face, so that'll be new (though we've known each other online for several years now.) Gonna drag 'em out to Cheesecrack Friday night too. AND I shall make a Key Lime Pie (or two, probably) for dessert that evening.  Been working on NaNoWriMo also, a.... um, well, a little.  Have I written what I'm supposed to have by now? Oh HELL no, but I've started.  I've had this one planned for a while, and said start does look promising.  When I have a decent chunk, I'll post it here.

One other thing that'll happen while my visitors are here:  it's time to bring a new baby ferret home.  This is my personal thought on the loss of a furry loved one-- the best legacy you can give their memory and your own is to create a place for another.  Kit will never, ever be replaced-- he can't be-- but he made room in my heart for another little furry child, and we'll go look for one that needs a home.  I'll post the results here too.  Yes, I'm excited about this; who wouldn't be? Baby ferrets are one of the cutest things on the freakin' planet, and I like the thought that my friends will be with me in this. Hey, lil_1337 ?  Wanna come along?

Work's been a bitch this week-- I've been run ragged by two very intense projects, one of which contained no less that 96 tables and 24 graphs covering two years' time.  Uuuurrrgh..... but hey, it's done, and it's in my boss' hands now and HE gets to play with it while I'm gone next week, not me!  **evil grin**  Also, I'm getting fish-eyed looks from my sub-boss about the Japan trip next year, but she was the one who said 'Everybody should be able to go on vacation if they have the leave', and by gods I most definitely *will* have the leave and then some. I got my detailed itinerary and a whole bunch of stuff from the tour company a couple days ago; it's pretty damned detailed.  A certified copy of my birth-certificate has also been obtained and now I can get my passport (I lost the old one a while ago and it had expired anyway), so I'm good to go.  Anybody got any suggestions about things that should be seen in Japan during the days of Oct. 18-21 or so? I'll have those free after the tour ends.

Okay, back to work for me; gonna be a long day.  Have a happy Friday, y'all.  ^__^

vacation, family
