 My younger sister Denise just sent me something amazing.

My dad spent most of his life playing guitar; I've talked about that on here before, about him playing gigs for a living, meeting my mom during WWII while he played on a USO bandstand, playing swing and jazz in a local large group right up until only two years before his death... and I've ( Read more... )

I wish it was too. He played swing, jazz and pretty much everything else for his entire life-- I don't even know how early he learned to play (from his older brother, my uncle George Barnes-- he made a chunk of albums and taught Chet Atkins to play (there's a Wiki entry on him))-- and I grew up hearing him play. He taught me to read music when I was seven; I owe my love of jazz to him, no question.

Denise did say that my nephew Alex has more footage and is putting it together on a DVD; I'll post any more of his music when that's done.

Your dad was really talented. It's shame there isn't more to the piece.
