Somehow this comes as no surprise at all. >_>.......
Got to work last night on a set of size 10 1/2 double-pointed knitting needles for a felting project I want to try; I picked up dowels from Ace Hardware in a kind of wood I wasn't aware that they carried and that I haven't tried before, called... raimi? rami? Raimi, I think; a lot like oak but with interesting glints in the wood, and with a pretty honey-tone. Fairly tough, a bit rougher-grained than I'd expected, but not bad. It files down well and sands to a good finish; these'll be kickass needles once I get them done. I keep wondering how they'd look if I did a bit of inlay across them, maybe in a wandering spiral pattern of individual tiny silver beads? Just a thought; I could drill very small holes and sink them in some clear epoxy... hmmm. Been in a real make-things mood lately, and I'm enjoying myself hugely. It's kind of a pity that I can't post pics of most of the things I've been making just yet (they're holiday presents), but I will after they've been given to their proper owners. ^_____^
Been a longish week; I haven't written about this here yet because I was waiting to see how things fell out, but my older sister's cancer has flaired up again in very not-good ways (rapidly-growing tumors in her liver and abdomen; before, they had been outside her liver) and she's spent the last few days at the University of Mississippi cancer center seeing a specialist. Turns out the specialist had a few ideas to try, beginning with an intensive hormone-therapy; if it works right, it'll shrink the tumors and she'll buy some time. Man, I hope so... I'm very glad she saw this guy and didn't just sit back and wait to keel over; we've already been through that once. So-- good news and all, or hope at least. There's a lot to be said for hope... it really can keep you alive.
Next week: the Coldplay concert with
lil_1337 and
ferretgirl_1124 ! And oh yeah, that Thanksgiving thing... XD I believe I'm slated to make pumpkin-bread, cranberry-sauce and a Key Lime Pie. Time to go shopping (carefully; bloody finances, aargh, and rent's coming up. Oh well.)
