Happy Independence Day to to all and sundry! Time to kick back, eat some good food, and blow something up... Tucson AZ had quite a fireworks display courtesy of Mother Nature last night-- niiiiiiice lightning. Not so good if you needed to be online (which, dammit, I did) but still, pretty to watch; and we got a good chunk of rain, too. The grass in my backyard's gonna be up to windowsill-level soon if I don't do something about it, I think. o_O
Had a long talk with my little sister a couple of nights ago; my mom's situation... well, I'm not going to get into the details again; too depressing and it doesn't help. But she needed to vent, so I listened and said what I could; don't know if I helped at all, but I tried. And tomorrow I'm going to put together a care-package of seven presents for her, a week's worth of one-per-day things to cheer her up; she needs it. Nothing all that fancy-- some Moroccan mint tea she likes, a new cup, a CD of music I'll burn for her, some English toffees and coffee-cremes, a paperback that I think she'll laugh at... that sort of thing. I'll gift-wrap everything and send it off Monday; I have about 5 packages that all need to go out the door so I'll head over and mail 'em at lunchtime all together, now that I actually have 'em packed up (yay padded envelopes!) I wish I could do more, but she and Mama are back in Florida and I'm way out here.
Em? Thanks for being there for me the other night when *I* needed to vent; I guess you're right, listening IS important. It really helped. **hugs hard**
So: got up horrifyingly early this morning, went to the store and bought two kinds of small potatos, golden and red (wish I could've found some blue but they're *really* hard to find!) and boiled them up; I made a butter sauce with fresh herbs from my garden, a little saffron and garlic, salt and pepper. Tasty! Gonna take it over to John & Linda's in about a half hour to contribute to lunch. And then this evening I'll be at Deb & Earl's place (gotta make another nectarine cobbler for that meal, my life consists of running from potluck to potluck. Could be worse) to watch fireworks and, if we're lucky, also watch A Mountain catch on fire. For those of you who are going 'Bwahh?', A Mountain isn't "a mountain", it's a mountain with a humongous letter "A" done on the side in gravel or something (it belongs to the University of Arizona.) Not really tall enough to be a mountain, more like a molehill, but I guess A Molehill just doesn't work, does it? Anyway, fireworks get set off from the area each year, and nine times out of ten they drift over onto the very dry summer brush on A Mountain and set the bloody thing on fire. The fire department put it out and everybody cheers; it's kind of traditional. We've had so much rain in the last few days (early and very strong Monsoon Season this year) that I dunno; might not be burnable this time... we'll see.
The auctions at
livelongnmarry have been going beautifully; I still only have one bid for my herbal sachets, but that's okay, am thinking of putting up a second set of items in a day or so depending on how the prototype turns out. **looks mysterious** I'll post a pic here if it goes like I want it to.
One last thing before I go... My older sister sent
this video, and daaaaaaaaaaaamn, I want to try this. TODAY. Yes. Geek!Senses tingling!
Have a happy and safe 4th, y'all. **waves**
