Meeeeeeeeeeeem... (sounds rather like a treefrog tuning up, doesn't it?)

WARNING:  Much rambling ahead.  Please don protective gear and sign wavers; our staff is waiting to assist you.  Enjoy the ride!

Ganked from
mel_redcap's journal, just 'cause:

1. My username is ______ because ______.
My username is Ysabet because back when I joined the SCA I had to think up something quick ("We're leaving NOW, what's your name gonna be, c'mon the car's loaded gogogogoGO!!") and 'Ysabet' is a Welsh version of my middle name, Elizabeth, and I liked it, and... I've been in the SCA for over 20 years. By now, 'Ysabet' is way more me than my given first name.  So when I first came online, it was naturally what I chose to use, and I'm glad of it; there are tons and tons of SparklingMoonShadowAnguishedSoulSeekerChangeChilde types, but very few Ysabets.  And it's way less tacky.

2. My name is _____ because ______.
My name is Suzanne because my mom had two sisters, Sue and Irma Anne, and rather than give me the expected family-name of 'Sudeth' or 'Sudie' (I like the first one, but the second one sounds like what you scream when you're calling pigs) she rebelled and named me after both of her sisters.  The middle name came from my grandmama.

3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
My Journal is titled Dances With Weasles because I do a lot of just that.  Ever try to get two bowls of ferret-chow (one dry, one with hot water) and a water-dish ready while three very excited carpetsharks create choreography around your ankles?  Without waking your flatmate?

4. My journal subtitle is ____ because ____.
My journal subtitle is Ysabet's stuff 'cause.... um, that's what it is.

5. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
My friends page is called Ysabet's friends because, well, ditto.  Hmmm.  I sense a trend here.

6. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
My default userpic is my ferretself, drawn by my excellent friend bewilde years and years ago; it's cropped from a full-sized me-as-animorph-nude that I commissioned to give to my husband (now my ex.)  When we divorced, I nabbed my Au Natural back, naturally.  XD  B-ko, if you read this and you have a scan handy, can you post it here?  All mine are on my home computer and I'm doing this at work.  Thenkyew veddy much; it's a damn good pic.

Anyway...  Been a busy week and rather a weird one so far; my department's as quiet as a morgue-- we have no less than 3 empty cubies, and the 4th one (which usually contains the Hemmorrhoid That Walks Like A Woman) is currently untenanted.  Rumors are flying thick and fast, but it seems that either something dire happened to her or her family or she did something really stupid and is on administrative leave.  Dunno; I've been made to do some serious reassignment of her cases and have been told that it's unknown when she'll be returning. In my mind, that breaks down to a) divorce, b) family crisis, c) legal trouble or d) massive unprofessional fuckup.  A couple of weeks ago the winner of the intermediate supervisor position she had tried for was announced, and it was NOT her; I'm fairly sure she thought she had it tied up-- this woman has a very, very high opinion of herself (not shared by a surprisingly large amount of the rest of us, I'm finding out)-- and that afternoon she muttered something about going to HR and disappeared until the following morning.  So-- I wonder if she blew up spectacularly?  No clue; but she's not here, some of her personal effects are gone (some are still on her desk) and I can't help but wonder what the hell happened.  **sigh**  If it's options a through b, I feel somewhat sorry for her despite not liking her in the least; if it's option c, well... depends.  She's married to some sort of high-maintenance lawyer type and tends to beat on her chest about it fairly often; if he did something corrupt or illegal, then who knows?  If it's option d, then fine; karma has smacked a bitch.  It happens, and if she's fired, I will not mourn her loss even slightly.  I *will* however regret the extra work that the other coordinators have to do to take up the slack, especially since one of 'em's leaving unexpectedly to take a bizarre cultural-liaison job in Afghanistan in a week and a half.  **sigh**

Other stuff:  All has been very, very, very, VERY quiet on the
domino_effect_  front as of late; am supposed to log tonight with several people, which I'm looking forward to an indecent amount-- it's been rather lonely, even with the meeting Sunday.  I miss logging when it gets like this, I really do.  Been poking at other fics again; I wrote on chapter 24 of Windfall for the first time in ages (added some bits, tightened up what's there, upfronted the chapter with the first four lines of Thirteen Sense's Into The Fire, that sort of thing) and worked on plotlines in a couple of other fics.  Shuffle is bugging me to do things with it; it only has a chapter and a half left, really, so I *could* get it done pretty quick, I guess...

Other projects:  Been playing around with an old SCA skill of mine, cutting quills into pens; it's trickier than it looks-- if the quill's not hardened just right, it'll be too flexible, and if it's too hard it'll shatter.  Oddly enough, the commercially-bought turkey quills I got from Michael's last weekend are perfect as to hardness-- I've cut a handful of really decent quills and played around with ink.  Nice!  Not what I'd expect-- dyed quills are generally too hardened (probably due to having been simmered in the dye, since heat is what hardens them).  Think I'd like to play around with some other types of quills; if anybody knows where I can get some seagull or pelican feathers, let me know, okay?  I'd ask my sister back home to pick 'em up from the beach, but she'd look at me like I had grown a second head and it'd never get done.  Why are my relatives so mundane?  Maybe if I asked the Nephew Squad...
Sluffed off going to Fighter Practice last night; baaad Ysabet, no biscuit!  But I had to move a ton o' boxes around at work in order to consolidate some old files that needed to go into offsite storage (honestly, these patients just need to stop being inconsiderate and dying on us!) and by the end of the day I was achy and stiff enough that I booked a massage (student rates, hah!) at the Providence Institute for Sunday morning; man, am I looking forward to THAT.

1.  Does anybody know how to get rid of a face-twitch?  Anybody?  Buehler?  Please?  aaaaagh....

2.  I wonder if Goodnight Nurse ever made a video to their version of the Milkshake Song?

3.  Why are there no Japanese restaurants in Tucson that deliver?  Why why why?  You can't throw a freaking STONE without hitting a Chinese place that does, but Japanese?  Nooooooo... and they're all over the place:  Sushi Ten, Sushi Cho, Samurai Sushi, Yoshimatsu, Oishi Sushi, tons of 'em, but not ONE delivers.  How come?

4.  Did y'all know that if you put tons of sugar in your tea mug at work and then leave a half-inch sitting for four days (since Friday, for instance), you end up with tea-colored quarter-inch rock candy crystals in the bottom?  In little columns?  NEAT.

sca, quizzes & memes, writing, she's being weird again
