So I am really, really trying to keep from getting my hopes up.

And I am failing utterly.

Between Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I worked about 38 hours.

Don't ask me why I'm in the office today.

ZOMG work is frustrating right now. We're working with a tool that cannot be tested in any sort of development environment, so we can't verify that things actually work the way we expect until we deploy into the test environment, which requires putting in a install request and waiting. The Expedition blew another spark plug on Tuesday. It'll be somewhere between $1000 and $5000 to fix it, depending on what we do. We may or may not be able to get Ford to pay for some or all of the repairs, we don't know yet ( Read more... )

...test-first development with built-in code coverage tools is something close to orgasmic. I'd not had the chance to do that before this evening, when I decided to try some.

Yeah.

(Mostly technical stuff here, rather than stuff like "feel like my work is worth something" sorts of things.)

• Source control no less sane than CVS.
• People who actually want to learn about new, easier ways to do things.
• People who care about maintainability.
• A project where doing test-first development doesn't feel like pissing in the wind.

I just love it when you have to go back to the business folks and tell them that you can implement a requirement they gave you, but if you do, they'll hate you for it.

Luckily, I think we can come up with something that'll do what they really want without the impacts their current requirement would cause.

So, the manual install request also fell out. Or rather, was explicitly rejected. For being "out of process". Yes, that's what the comment rejecting the order said. Never mind that it was a manual expedite and thus being out of process was sort of the whole point ( Read more... )

Yesterday was full of suck. I had six separate issues that had to be dealt with right now on four separate projects, two of them severity 1 problems in production.

Here's hoping today will be a little less insane.
