Good Morning Everyone,
It’s the 5th of May, or as they say in Mexico…
…CINCO de MAYO!!!
TIME TO FIESTA!!!
No, the 5th of May is not and American holiday, nor is it Mexican Independence Day from Spain (which is September 15th, 1810). So why is Cinco de Mayo such a celebration for Mexicans and Americans? Simple…the Battle of Puebla.
On the morning of May 5th 1862, 4,000.00 ill-equipped Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico. This Mexican victory kept Napoleon III, who detested the United States, from supplying the confederate rebels for another year, allowing the US to build the greatest army the world had seen, which 14 months later, crumbled the Confederates at Gettysburg, ending the Civil War. After that, Union forces rushed to the Texas/Mexican border to join the Mexican Army in their continued efforts to expel the French completely.
So why Fiesta? You see, neither Mexicans nor Americans want to forget who their friends are. That’s why Cinco de Mayo is such a party-a party that celebrates freedom and liberty, two ideals which Mexicans and Americans have fought shoulder to shoulder to protect, ever since the 5th of May, 1862.
SO GET OUT THERE AND PARTY!!! I MEAN FIESTA!!!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
With Love, Sandy
