We've reached a milestone

1) This past week I shared an article regarding Rainbow Rowell's new work that looked at how fanfic worked. And given other articles this same week that also look at how fanfic functions, I'm ready to call it.

One advantage of streaming is that as we switch from service to service it forces him to pare down what he actually wants to see and prioritize that instead of just filling up the DVR with things he'll never get to. That's a good point. I DVR a ridiculous amount of shows that build up to overwhelming hours. Maybe choosing streaming would act as an intervention.

That really is an "ugh" conclusion.

It could, yes. I think it's been less true for me because I've always been an intentional viewer and, unlike him, I watch sports rarely (pretty much only the soccer World Cups). Plus, I am willing to watch an entire series at once before moving on to the next one whereas he prefers to see things on an episodic basis. But it makes a difference if I say, "Hmm, maybe I'll try that out" to saying "I'll sign up for this service so that I can watch that."

Yes, and that conclusion is my big concern for the future, which is the co-option of fan-run and designed spaces for the purpose of tracking and selling.

I think the Hugo win gives AO3, and therefore fanfic, a bit of mainstream respectability, but I'm curious to see if it holds. I'm seeing a lot of hot takes mostly from men trying to minimize that win because it's a mostly female and/or queer driven form of fandom expression ( ... )

Passenger List is my first audio play so I wasn't sure how others handled ads, but I agree that they a good job of weaving them into the episode. It probably also helps that this one jumps around a lot in terms of time and places, so it makes it less surprising when they appear ( ... )
