Rural areas are, I suspect, going to be the backbone of non-streaming alternatives exactly because Internet access has always been poor. I wonder though if 5G (when it finally gets here as opposed to the current faux-5 being advertised) will finally be the breakthrough, allowing customers to use cell service to run other Internet connections feasibly and affordably. I really like our Roku. Our main TV is relatively new and they're almost all Smart TVs now but I quickly learned that Samsung's apps were limited and also, other than Netflix, a nuisance to use. We watch almost everything off the Xbox in that room and the Roku in the bedroom. I find it works well with various services and is also conveniently portable when we travel.
We still get Netflix DVDs because it covers a lot of bases and offers a lot of earlier content, primarily with movies, but also sometimes with shows and the cost is not that high. We tend to do a quick turnaround because I'm almost always the one watching them, either because Mike is too busy or just disinterested.
Your bet would be correct, and not people from within fandom either. However their company has taken over male dominated spaces -- Wikia -- and they're now offering their own games. Fortunately they are completely disinterested in the female side of fandom, at least for now.
