SPN 6.10 - At least the break isn't next week

Dec 04, 2010 12:28

I'm not sure I've ever loathed an episode of SPN so much before it was even over, especially when the writers were actually dealing with their seasonal arc. So if you adored this episode, this will not be the discussion for you. ( Read more... )

Oh, big fat nauseated disbelieving Word.

My head's spinning right now. This show is so far into the ditch I don't see there is any way of pulling it out.

Tell me about it. I've started referring to it as bad fan-fic that somehow got filmed. As much as I hate to say it, I really hope that this is Supernatural's last season; I don't want to see the show get any worse.

Side note: Last week we were catching up on episodes of The Good Guys and watched one that Mike declared played out like bad fanfic. He wasn't wrong either -- the whole thing was wretched from any logical POV (this was the bead and breakfast one).

'He wasn't wrong either -- the whole thing was wretched from any logical POV (this was the bead and breakfast one).'

Ah, I see.

'Have we also forgotten that, like Samuel, Adam only said yes in order to see his mother and, perhaps, spare Dean what he was obviously unwilling to do?'
True, but I've heard the writers don't want to bring Adam back so I'm guessing he'll be like Cas was in season five, in that if he's not in an episode he doesn't even get mentioned. Lazy, lazy writing, but sadly that's the kind of thing I've come to expect from this show this season.

'11) "Castiel, haven't seen you all season." Best line of the night.'
Agreed.

Agreed with all of your awful. How can NO ONE in the writing room see a problem with all of that stuff? Seriously, porn torture table. I know Sera has her 'issues', she once said that her favorite Sam moment was when it looked like Meg!Sam was going to rape Jo in Born Under a Bad Sign, but still...

I know that the people who wrote this episode were new to the show, but it was just BAD all the way around.

I've heard that but was hoping it was a comment being taken out of context because, seriously, is there no thought to Jo in that scenario (speaking of other innocent characters being given the shaft)?

Newish yes, but not the first episode after all. And so far as I've heard the stories continue to be broken as a group so there's a lot of blame to go around.

I honestly don't think she did think of Jo. Sadly Jo wasn't and wouldn't be the first female character to be treated as little more than a prop by the writers.

So true. So far this is probably the worst season that Supernatural has ever had. When I heard Sera was going to be show runner I was worried and nothing she's done so far has made me less worried but more worried.

Honestly, I didn't have any more concern about her helming a season than I had for Kripke. I think one thing that doesn't help is staff turnover, and I'd guess she's writing less given her other duties -- hasn't it been just one episode so far?

I didn't read this because I don't want to be spoiled, but oy! I am dreading "opening the queue" on the DVR list now...... [shudders.]

I honestly enjoyed last week's episode and was feeling a little hopeful about what they'd chosen to focus on this season. But this one really dashed it all to pieces.

I have become so ambivalent about the show that I forgot it was on, my roommate had to come in and remind me to watch it. I agree with you on all the torture. I thought it was cool Sam made a devils trap with his blood, but really, is even he tall enough to reach the ceiling to draw it? and I'm right there with you about not suffering from blood loss and he somehow stopped bleeding too, so how did that work? I was totally wondering why Crowley didn't bust out of the DT, I thought as King of Hell he would have more power than that. And as King of Hell isn't he more powerful than Meg who was Alistair's daughter? I mean back in the day when he was just a cross roads demon I'm sure she had more power, but now? Oh, well. Yeah, the rape/torture/porn of women is getting old. I totally did not understand the Meg kissing Cas scene, it is weird. Porn has always been used for laughs in SPN, but I didn't understand why Cas was watching it. Also, I am so tired of Sam and Dean being rude to Cas and bossing him around. He's a powerful angel, not ( ... )

If they do get Sam's soul back and it's all jacked up they can always come back next season with the one year later theme and pick up with Sam at a Christian Mental Hospital or a Buddhist retreat where his soul is healing with help of angels and human healers.

An interesting thought. They could even do a five-year jump really and set up another new scenario for the season. That's definitely a better option than a quick cure or a whole season of Sam in pain.

One problem SPN has is that they've got a "big payoff" idea for the end of every season, but they often don't lead up to it well, meaning a boatload of problems mid-season and then a rush to the big finish. With Crowley now gone, Sam not wanting his soul, and the prospect of its return rather unpalatable, what is this big idea to be? Is the second half of the season going to turn to the angel wars?

yeah, Cas brings Sam and Dean to Heaven to kick some ass! I like it. Think of all the possibilities of different realities since Heaven is your best memories. What does Heaven look like to angels, more specifically, angels at war?

I would so prefer this outcome.

She didn't! omg.

I've got bronchitis, I'm currently not hearing anything in one ear so I could barely understand a word. Now, I'm thinking I was lucky.
