SPN 6.10 - At least the break isn't next week

Dec 04, 2010 12:28

I'm not sure I've ever loathed an episode of SPN so much before it was even over, especially when the writers were actually dealing with their seasonal arc. So if you adored this episode, this will not be the discussion for you. ( Read more... )

Oh, big fat nauseated disbelieving Word.

My head's spinning right now. This show is so far into the ditch I don't see there is any way of pulling it out.

Tell me about it. I've started referring to it as bad fan-fic that somehow got filmed. As much as I hate to say it, I really hope that this is Supernatural's last season; I don't want to see the show get any worse.

Side note: Last week we were catching up on episodes of The Good Guys and watched one that Mike declared played out like bad fanfic. He wasn't wrong either -- the whole thing was wretched from any logical POV (this was the bead and breakfast one).

Even though I really hope this is Supernatural's last season I have serious doubts about that, because A. it's rumored that Jensen and Jared have signed up for another season, B. Dawn O has been talking up a season seven before this one even aired, C. I just can't see Dawn canceling Supernatural and Smallville at the same time, D. even if the ratings become awful Supernatural is in syndication which is where most shows really make money and E. not only did this season get new promo stuff but it hasn't even been advertised as the last season (unlike Smallville).

It's not like this season seemed terribly promising to start with but after last week's light touch, I thought they might well pull out something watchable. But wow, this was a rapid crash and burn alright.

My personal series highlight (among quite a few, I have to say) was Edlund's On the Head of A Pin. And when I look at where the show has gone from there, the contempt these people seem to have for their own story, their characters, their actors and their audience, I am at a complete loss.

I did think that after the relentlessly soul-destroying crap that was season 5, things had to improve. Clearly I was very very wrong.

Mine too, but than Edlund has always been one of my favorite writers.

Clearly, someone made the point that Sam is now a metaphor for the show in general; it looks same but the soul has been ripped out.

Someone came up with that metaphor and I thought it was very fitting. It's much more catchy than zombie season. Although I couldn't help but notice that one of the definitions for a Zombie Season is '[the characters] personalities long since removed for easier manipulation' and if you replace 'personality' with 'soul' that's what writers have literally done to Sam.
