As of late, I’ve been doing a bunch of entries to get a lot off my chest in terms of relationships. But today, I feel like doing something for the hell of it. What’s that you ask? I’ll be doing a post dedicated to all of the shows in my current anime lineup~ I’ve been wanting to do it for a while now so it’s good to finally get to this one!
Rainbow - Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
This is probably my sleeper hit out of all of the shows in my line up. Thanks to coldrain of Hajime no Ippo: NC fame, I decided to check out this show. It doesn’t follow the usual mold that new series usually have the tendency of going with. You know, pansy main characters, dumb female love interests and a clusterfuck of a story. You rarely get to see a show that takes place in the 1950’s, so that’s another reason why I think I appreciate the show. They really do tackle a lot of issues that other shows seem to avoid like rape and cruelty to prisoners. Hell, in the first episode, they certainly scared the idea of never going to jail for any reason in my mind like Boondocks did..except it’s not as funny. Even with the grotesque nature of the show, I feel like it’s something that all anime fans should at least try. It doesn’t take long for the action to pop off and the story progresses at a nice pace. I’m only seven episodes in to what will probably be a twenty four episode series so I’m looking forward to it. Unlike Drrr, I won’t be able to wait until the end because I’ve already started watching it on a weekly basis. I think I’ll look into the manga, as well. I’m too impatient waiting for the weekly episodes and the manga has already finished. Hopefully Rainbow will catch on and people will start doing icons. I mean, with seven protaganists, how could you not like at least one out of the bunch? Oh, and the main antagonists are major dicks so I’m looking forward to seeing them die~
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Unlike traditional anime fans, I actually liked the 2003 series. But Brotherhood? I love it like a long lost friend. It started out as a weekly bonding experience between two brothers almost a year ago and even though we’re in different places now, we still watch it and talk about it like we used to. I think I’ll really cherish this one for that reason and the overall fact that we pretty much mirror the Elric Brothers. I really love the fact that many new characters have been introduced to the show in a higher degree like Ling, Lan Fan and Olivier Armstrong just to name a few. How can you not enjoy bad guys like Kimblee and Salem this time around? Overall, the story overlaps the 2003 series by far but there are a few aspects from the old series that aren’t included in Brotherhood since the first one isn’t cannon in the slightest. I thought it was pretty cool to have the connection between the main characters and the houmunculi. But Brotherhood makes up for that with Scar completely obliterating Shou Tucker. With the show ending on July 4th, it’ll be a good way to cap off my weekly summer vacation from school. Thanks for the memories, Brotherhood. You’ve been very kind and I won’t forget you after it’s all said and done.
Naruto: Shippuuden
On hiatus but I don’t think I could ever turn my back on this series. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with the overall direction of it but for the most part, Kishimoto has done a fairly good job of keeping me happy. It’s hard to believe that Shippu started in 2007. Though I don’t have my normal viewing partner of the show when it first started out, I’ll always cherish it because it brings out a lot of happy memories. I’m only a couple episodes behind the latest release and I’ll probably end up catching up when the battle between Pein and Naruto caps off. Also, Kishimoto is bringing out the highly anticipated Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 this year, which I’m really looking forward to.
Fairy Tail
Another show on hiatus but I’m not too far behind just like with Shippuuden. I started this show on a whim after my ex-girlfriend brought it to my attention. It’s a little funky and it isn’t perfect in the slightest but I really do like it. Art wise, it reminds me a lot of One Piece so maybe the creator is simply paying homage to the creator. Whenever I get time, I’ll probably start up the manga since I like to view the show as well as read the manga. It also helps that the opening songs usually put me in a jovial mood.
Bleach
Hiatus, again. I’ll always love this show because it was something that I got into despite the criticisms and flack that my friends give me for liking it. I’ve never been a good fan of follow a mold without even watching a show and I would be missing out on this show if I did. Tite Kubo does a good job with his character progression and he knows how to pull off slick fight scenes. It doesn’t hurt that all the soundtracks are amazing. “Encirclement Battle” is actually one of my favorite anime songs of all time and I’ve been watching anime for a while now. With the manga ending soon, it’s a shame that I can toss up losing yet another show in 2010 or 2011 for sure.
Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou
Most certainly my crack show of this season. I don’t know what got me to start this show but I’ve been really enjoying it. Unlike the other shows on this list, I would most certainly put this in the ecchi category. It has tits, dragons, magic, everything. It’s a good thing that the uncensored episodes are released shortly after broadcast or this thing would be placed in the later category like Ladies vs. Butlers. I would actually be willing to do a plot based off of this show since it is harem based and I like all of the girls involved. I don’t know which chick my boy Akuto is going to choose but either way, I hope it’s the one with the tits~
Saraiya Goyou/House of Five Leaves
My absolute favorite out of everything that I’ve been watching because it brings a fresh feudal Japan feeling without overdoing it in the slightest. It also helps that the art style is funky, too. I’ve always enjoyed the shows that Manglobe have produced but it’s unfortunate that more people don’t watch it. It’s good that the editor believes in his show, going as far as to shave his head for the poor ratings in Japan. Both protaganists, Masanosuke and Yaichi provide a good dynamic between leads but I can predict that they’ll probably end up fighting before the series is over.
That caps off my little anime entry. I’ve really had fun writing it. I should do this for every season that I watch. I'll probably do something on Durarara after I've finished the show. It's ending soon so that's a major plus for me.
