The weekend took a little longer to write up than normal, as I expected it would. I left off on Friday, about to head to the arboretum. Contrary to the numerous text messages I received (you bunch of jealous bastards), the weather wasn't terrible. I met
notgothdammit and Joey and we had a good hour of sun (and heat! our ice creams melted far too quickly). Bumped into Becca and baby Ella, who resolutely ignored the 'Lara Croft with a beard' (they're learning young these days), but was otherwise really quite cute. We threw a frisbee round a bit, ninja rolled a bit, took a few photos, and when the sky finally opened we retired to the pub. 'The pub' in this instance being the surprisingly nice roof garden of Bensons, near the Victoria Centre, where there was proper beer, and we were joined by
pai_kitagowa. Then followed random wanderings to John Lewis to fetch the GothPod (like an iPod, but belonging to Kristy), and Tesco, which had a woeful lack of meat, back to the pub for enough to secrete a large bottle of Frosty Jacks into Joey's bag, then finally off to ASDA with
manniqueen_ in her semi-dying car to pick up food and meat for Kristy.
Got back to the flat to meet
lost_in_music_ and Disturbed Tom (bottle of Bullit on hand). Had a small drink (after last time) and headed down to Assault. To my mind, Assault went really well. I had an hour's set to play with near the beginning of the night and as such could play what I'd consider to be a more cohesive set. The problem with short sets is you're more likely to panic if the floor clears. This still happens to me after three years, so I would imagine it's worse for the newbies. Still, played my first set, fuelled by kind donations of Red Bull (the booth was HOT), before wandering out into the crowds. The usual lot were in attendance, augmented by
the_alleycat (who doesn't think New Order is 'good') and
voodooangel and
greeba, who I think had just given in to taunts about the proliferation of ladies. There was a little drama, most of which unrelated to me, some of which slightly connected (my spies are everywhere). All this did was serve to make me have a better time than I was already having. Anyone else enjoy knowing that you simply being in a location is an annoyance? Let alone you having a good time, or having friends? Yeah, that's the sort of fun I was having. Schaudenfraud ? Yeah, but who cares? If people want to think i'm a bastard i'm simply a product of their creation ;) As ever, here's what I played:

Aqua to Anthrax, how many rock clubs do that, eh? I was impressed to see
shallowthing up for both. Post-DJing I spent time in the second room, taking a few photographs, and enjoying the drunken dancing of
manniqueen_ and the delectable
_vimto_. It was amusing me to see just how many jaws were dropping at the sight of those two gyrating, and rightly so. Wandered home with
perfectglitch in tow (Tom once again stayed to chat up fresher girls) and got a late night. All in all an excellent night, surrounded by friends. As for those who aren't friends, well they just amuse the hell out of me anyway.
On to Saturday! More restful than I'd planned for, but that's no bad thing. Then come evening time I met Charlotte and walked to
the_alleycat's place in Sneinton for pre-Nightmare beers (and Jagermeisters). It was nice to chill out in some good company, before getting a cab back to town and Nightmare. In the end, Nightmare wasn't quite as good as it could have been, everyone was a little more subdued than expected and it was a bit too hot for dancing. It didn't help that someone (probably the venue) screwed the drinks offers, meaning cheap drinks weren't available until *after 2am*, when the venue is only open until two, you're inclined to question the point. Still, I had a wonderful time, again largely due to the company, including the gorgeous London contingent of
_vimto_,
kimera_hydra and
fenbane, and
archenemy888 up from Leicester. Utterly failed to meet new people (
laurel_mcjobo and
cutedeadstuff), and attempts to talk to
chalkeh were thwarted by her appearing to be asleep for most of the evening ;) Charlotte and I ducked out slightly early for refreshments, before getting a taxi up to Mapperly with Sharon and
jonthebloody. Here we waited for
notgothdammit to turn up and let the afterparty loose on her and a very brave
nummie_devi's house. The party was a perfect wind down, I was introduced the wonders of 'Guitar Hero' on the Playstation, there were attempts made to inflate a large 'water-trampoline', and Kristy once again managed to have her booze consumed before her party proper. I also had a beautiful moment where I found myself sequestered on Kristy's bed, with a glass of whisky in one hand, surrounded by what could fairly be described as a 'harem' of highly attractive ladies. Sadly the most they were interested in was my hat, but it's the thought that counts eh? Finally bailed from the party at six to walk home with Charlotte and grab a few hours sleep before...
Sunday! When we trekked BACK to chéz goth for her official birthday BBQ. Weston beat me to the grill, which was fine by me. I was handed the remains of
fenbane's whiskey, and a huge pile of sausages, which kept me tipsy and making crude jokes for the remainder of the afternoon. Highlights of the BBQ included Guitar Hero (once again), the re-emergence of the Cliff Richard calendar, a guy berating Charlotte for 'going to sleep on me', the comfort of
vampiric_monkey's coat, Kristy chasing me with mayo, chiding Ryan for sleeping with a MILF, and last but not least, a hyperactive six year old called Damian, who a few of us attempted to play football with. How one child can have so much energy is well beyond me, I was tired just watching. I did steal his Nintendo DS and have a sneaky game of Tetris though :) Despite perking up a little as the afternoon wore on, I ducked out early (before
squeeface even woke up. HUGE thankyou to
notgothdammit for her hospitality over the weekend, I'm looking forward to / dreading the photos.
That'll be all of the update for now, there's a few more things to mention, but they're random snippets, and can be fitted in when I get home.
A brief word on the dramatic fallouts from the weekend, which I'm fortunate enough to not have been a part of. I'll say the same as I say any time anything kicks off over issues that don't involve me: "I am on nobody's side, because nobody is on my side" :)
Finally a bumper crop of birthday wishes for
tornandtwisted,
ashe_dead_angel,
gadgeeuropa,
russmckendrick and of course
notgothdammit. And extra super special congratulations to
manniqueen_ for getting a much deserved promotion at work :)
