So I said I wanted a discussion post with comment threads, which I guess means I get to make it, but I'm lazy so I'm just crossposting from my tumblr.

Spoilers for everything! )

Read this on Tumblr first, but I still agree. I spent most of this issue going "Dammit Kaplan" and "No! NO!!!" There's no one thing that I can narrow it down to. This whole issue is a train wreck and sadly the most damaged victims are Billy and Teddy. I'm okay with characters making the rounds through writers. That's what comics are about. The various contributions that grow these characters into the icons they become. But, I feel like Gillen played a little too fast and loose with this one. There wasn't anything cohesive about the characterizations. Yeah, they can't all be Heinberg, but some others have done really good jobs with the YA cast in other books. Arguably more so in keeping them alive for us throughout Heinberg's hiatus. And he paid attention to that when he came back for Children's Crusade. He didn't just write out everything and wave a creator key at everyone. Which is what it feels like Gillen is doing here. "They're in my playground now, bitches ( ... )

I wasn't nearly as pleased with this as I was hoping to be. I certainly didn't think it was predictable, though - I was not expecting Billy to try to do anything about Teddy's mother! I'm kind of glad he's going there and giving Teddy more on-screen emotional development, but you're right that Billy and Teddy seem off. I'm looking forward to more of the rest of the team though.

There is no help. :/ Gillen did an interview with Comics Alliance and in it, Billy was compared to Kurt. And considering how annoying Kurt and Blaine are in general, it probably means Billy and Teddy will be a wash.

Wait, are you talking about the interview out yesterday? Because that was the interviewer comparing Anole to Chris Colfer. I'm pretty sure neither Gillen nor McKelvie have even mentioned Glee.

Also, wait, whaaaat? Anole to Chris Colfer or Anole to Kurt the character? Because I know nothing about the actor, but Anole = Kurt like Santa Claus = Jesus. Sure they have things in common (being gay; Christmas) but I'd never think to hold them up together and go, oh yeah, total ringer.

Anole is way more skater guy. And if Santo = Blaine, I will eat my laptop. (Anole/Santo is my secret OTP that no one will share with me.)

Sorry, I should have linked: here's the article. I think he was just referring to body type.

"CA: Are you going to be crossing over? I'm not clear on how Marvel NOW is approaching that. But I want to see Wiccan and Hulkling hang out with Anole, and maybe Pixie. You should put them on your team. Am I writing fanfic now? Anole needs friends. Are you looking up who Anole is?

JM: I know who Anole is. :(

CA: No frowny faces for Anole!

KG: Jamie! Anole was the one who got sick first in Quarantine, man. READ MY COMICS.

JM: I was just feeling sad for his big weird arm.

CA: I like it. I like that he's this Chris Colfer mutant with this one giant jock arm."

*smack* You're right. Ugh, but that makes me even sadder. Anole never came across as a Kurt-esque character at all. Anole is brave, resourceful, outspoken, and chill (except when the PTSD grabs him). Kurt is quiet, whiny, hardly resourceful, needs help with every decision in his life and ruffles over everything. Ugh, that makes me even more depressed that I crossed those wires...

I interpreted it as just referring to body type. I don't think comparing a character to an actor necessarily implies he's anything like the character the actor plays!

Assuming this is the interview luminum was referring to, it's here!

Yes, that´s the interview. Thanks!

Kieron didn´t compare Billy and Teddy with Kurt and Blaine though. Or maybe I missed something? *reads again*

Recap for those of us who missed some kind of reference - who are Kurt and Blaine? Is that a Glee thing? (I think I've seen those names in connection with posts about that show, but I've never watched it and don't think I know anyone who does. At least no-one on my tumblr dash. :P)

Kurt is one of the main cast members of Glee. He's an effeminate, quiet boy who is bullied at school, but perseveres by finding himself while part of Glee club and having a ridiculously supportive father, Burt, who is a gruff auto mechanic. He ends up falling in love with the handsome and charismatic Blaine, who attends a private school and leads their a cappella group. After facing some serious bullying, Kurt conquers his adversity and Blaine changes schools to be with him. Some people love Kurt, and some people hate him ( ... )
