When you first meet Keiichi, he might act like a mean-spirited jerk in order to tease his friends or get a rise out of someone if he feels inclined. But Keiichi's verbal jabs aren't meant to be taken seriously. It's only his way of being friendly towards others. In the beginning of Onikakushi-hen, he teases Rena by saying that he'd never wait for her like she waits for him in the morning before school. Of course, he quickly takes back his statement by saying that he'll always wait. He acts that way to the people he likes and sometimes people that he's never met before. But for the latter, it might get him in lots of trouble because of his sharp tongue and his strong reasoning with words. For example, Keiichi wanted to drive away Tomitake (who was taking pictures and looking suspicious at the time) by saying that Rena was looking for a dead body in the junk yard. Keiichi sounded so convincing that Tomitake responded by bringing up the murders that occurred in Hinamizawa a few years ago which starts to plant Keiichi's seeds of suspicion towards his friends and the entire village for that arc.
Keiichi can also be mischievous and pretty perverted when it comes to teasing and/or flirting around with girls. That's evident when you see him fantasizing about the different kinds of outfits and punishments he'd make up for the other club members when someone (or all of them) lose a game. He's actually known to be a genius, but he can be pretty dense or aloof to other people's feelings at times. Rena and Mion seem to display romantic feelings towards Keiichi, but he seems to be mostly oblivious towards that fact. He does openly flirt with them, but it's pretty much under 'friendly flirting' than actual romantic flirting.
And from Rika's point of view, there's a reason why Keiichi is referred as the "Magician of Words". He has a powerful way of speaking that can persuade an entire group of people to follow him like an army. This becomes a powerful asset later on in the series such as getting the entire village to defend Satoko from her abusive father. But sometimes, Keiichi might end up saying the wrong thing without thinking and get beaten up for it. But that's usually played out for laughs and giggles.
When Keiichi sets his mind on something, there's almost no stopping him. For example, he can become really competitive and fired up when comes to simple games and he'll even use 'outside of the box' methods to win (or cheat like Mion). But this can also be a bad thing if Keiichi misinterprets a serious situation in the wrong way. He's not below committing murder in order to protect his friends or even defend himself if he has to. Keiichi can lose his cool when he's under a lot of pressure. But when that happens, he always reminds himself to keep his cool before he starts to analyze a situation.
Overall, if you leave a good impression and show your good sides, Keiichi will be your best friend for life.

Uwaaa... I never would've thought that I'd be waking somewhere different than my own bed and getting free things like this. I'll admit that I was pretty creeped out at first, but I had to remember to keep my cool. Heh... And thanks to Mion's club activities, this Maebara Keiichi can adjust to any situation without fail! I'm no fish out of water, I'm a great white shark swimming through the depths of the ocean!
Still... Handling this new technology is pretty overwhelming. But I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I hope I don't screw around too much and accidentally break it or something.
And this is my starter, huh? Man... You're a pretty energetic and lively little guy. I'm liking you a lot! Well then, let's go make some awesome memories together, Aipom! We're gonna stick together through thick and thin!

When Keiichi first woke up, he was in quite a shock. This wasn't his own normal bed back in Hinamizawa. This wasn't even his own normal room. The young boy found himself drawing to wild conclusions such as aliens abducted him while he was sleeping and beamed him to their home planet. As he was being carried off in his wild imagination, Keiichi decided that he would need to check his body for any stray or weird marks that were left behind if the aliens performed any experimenting. Besides, he's seen this happen all the time in the manga he's read before. The final conclusion was that they've might have left some strange device up in his butt too.
"Damn... I'll have to check very deep in there..." He mumbled. These turn of events were quite literally a pain in the ass. Before he could even put his hand down there, he had to stop himself. Wait a minute. What in the world was he thinking? Aliens? Experimenting? Anal probing?
"Come on, This isn't a sci-fi manga! This is real life!" He has yelled out to no one else but himself. Everything in this world could be resolved with a logical and human explanation. Before he could 'create' that explanation for himself and check things out, Keiichi had to make sure that all of his emotions in check. He slapped his face, arched his back and took three deep breaths in order to calm himself down and analyze the situation.
Be cool, Maebara Keiichi. He said that manta like a charm over three times in his head before he finally relaxed.
First of all, he personally didn't believe that aliens existed. And second, this room seemed a little too earthly to be have been created by aliens. It didn't seem very Japanese, but the culture of it wasn't the important thing. It looked like he had come to this very room for a majority of his life. And finally, the most important evidence of all... There was the smells of eggs and pancakes waiting for him downstairs.
And as an added bonus, there was a cute mother who was calling out for him to boot. How could he call himself a man if he disappointed a woman that cooked for him with all of her heart and soul? For now, he decided to head downstairs and greet his 'mother' for a good morning. Maybe tease her a little bit too. He had no idea where the rest of the day was going to take him, but Keiichi had to go with the flow.
