why didn't you post this and find me back when i was still pretending to be in college? :| would make a brilliant city squares assignment. Round squares even! sigh.
It's fantastic how your city isn't infested with pseudo-modern architectural experiments. Did you make those photos?... is that a dumb question? 'fraid so.
And yay, we've got an island on the river in my city too :3
Aww, if I had known, I definitely would have come to your rescue! D: *pets*

Some think it's a disgrace, actually. I believe it's a total plus, like you, but young architects HATE it here because they can't go crazy at all xD
Yay islands! :DD
:XX It's ok, darling, you're third, good placement ;D
Damn, I was forgetting! No, I didn't take the pics, I would never do such a great job of it...photography sure isn't one of my talents, lol. I looked about the net to find some beautiful images of my city :)
Oh, we've heard about those overzealous young architects, haven't we, my precioussss. Some wackos in the city hall give them building permissions for public constructions that people will forever call 'The Blender' because it looks like a drink shaker on top of a glass monstrosity, lol. And it's gonna stand by the main street until someone blows it up and puts the townsfolk out of its misery x: Young architects can take extra aesthetics courses and go back when they grow up :| I'm probably saying this out of envy anyway, have been listening to jaded architects at school for too long. Still, it must be cool to live in a city that maintains its character, instead of having everything built in such way that it'll collapse in 20 years and make space for further architectural experiments :D
I'll have to try harder at stalking next time, lol.
I have visited Lisbon!! :DD You must visit Rome, too ^__^
I could show you around :))) (be warned though, Rome is not all pretty ancient-looking buildings and sparkly lights in the night, it's also a lot of issues such as dirty sidewalks; old, greasy subways; people just dumping their wastes wherever they want...:((
Now you must visit Porto, which has a very different feeling from Lisbon. There's a big rivalry here between people from the North, Porto, where the country was born, and people from the center, Lisbon, and South. It was probably a football thing at first, but it has developed into something bigger over the years. We mock each others accents and stuff like that. I don't like Lisbon all that much, probably because it has become like any other big, European city - dangerous, dirty, expensive. I tend to prefer small towns, where the air is fresh and the atmosphere is quiet, but I loved London with all my heart. London is something else, altogether

I can relate with what you said about the North/South rivalrly, because here in Italy it runs DEEP, it's an issue that goes back to before the Unification. It's more than just rivalry, it's, sometimes, outright hate, racism by the 'Northern' people towards the Southern population. Because here the North is richer and certainly more advanced. But I'd say much of the fault for such a difference in progression and modernity is to be put on the governments we have had, though, which were never able to solve the issue. Also, Rome isn't exactly loved by a certain part of the people living in the North, we Romans are thought of as lazy asses who do nothing but eat and talk vulgarly (we have a rather strong dialect). Luckily I *think* things have gotten better. At least I hope
