I can relate with what you said about the North/South rivalrly, because here in Italy it runs DEEP, it's an issue that goes back to before the Unification. It's more than just rivalry, it's, sometimes, outright hate, racism by the 'Northern' people towards the Southern population. Because here the North is richer and certainly more advanced. But I'd say much of the fault for such a difference in progression and modernity is to be put on the governments we have had, though, which were never able to solve the issue. Also, Rome isn't exactly loved by a certain part of the people living in the North, we Romans are thought of as lazy asses who do nothing but eat and talk vulgarly (we have a rather strong dialect). Luckily I *think* things have gotten better. At least I hope.
So, Porto, uh? I have to say I loved Lisbon, but I'm sure Porto must be every bit as beautiful, maybe even more, as you say. Although personally I love big cities. Rome has waaaay too much traffic, is very polluted, and loud, and mildly dangerous. It is a big city, yeah, and it has all the issues of a big city ;)

Perhaps because I love Latin and art, and I would love to see those famous monuments. Oh, the coliseum must be amazing!

I think we Roman don't fully understand what it means to live here and be able to just...go out and visit all these wonderful monuments and relics! The Coliseum is beautiful, yes ♥
