[JOW] 8.2 vague

Dec 03, 2008 18:59

Seth knew had been vague with Ryan but he was comfortable with vague. The land of vague was safe and there were no absolutes. In the land of vague, Seth was free to kiss Ryan in the back hallway of the mall and then turn right around and ask him to pass the cereal. He hadn't told Ryan he loved him. He hadn't even told Ryan he was gay for the guy. Really, everything he had said was pretty, "it's not as if I am" as opposed to more of the "I am" variety.

Because, Seth didn't know what he was, himself, yet. Not only was Seth vague with Ryan but he was vague with himself. He couldn't let himself dwell on anything for too long because then his thoughts would leave vague territory and enter vivid ville where everything was clear and rich in color and Seth wasn't ready for Pleasantville.

He was not an under appreciated but over hyped movie with two up and coming actors. He was a cool, sleek indie film where the audience doesn't exactly know what's happening but that's completely fine because that's the point. He was The Air I Breathe. Except without the violence...and the pain...and the not so great message. Fine, he wasn't The Air I Breathe, but he was indie and he knew it. He had always been indie.

Eventually, he would have to pick up Pleasantville again and give it a rewatch.

But for now, Seth was comfortable with indie. And vague. He was vague indie.
