Honestly, Seth is surprised when Ryan talks to him Saturday night when he gets back. Unfortunately, Seth wishes he had something better or less jarring to bring up then that of the existence of vampires. At first, he tries talking to Ryan through the internet. It's safe because they haven't actually seen each other face-to-face since Friday afternoon. So, for Seth, right then and there, this works.
Seth's best friend isn't having any of it and even tries to tell him he's cracked. Well, not cracked - but drunk and/or high...which he isn't. He himself fought two vampires Saturday night. And as crazy and out of this world as that is, it's the truth and nothing he says convinces Ryan. Not even when he comes downstairs himself and shows Ryan the bruise and arm scratches.
He tells his mother he fell down the stairs at the mall, that he made a scene, and that there was a lot of laughter, detailing that of one short red haired girl's witch-like cackle. At first, he thinks he's being too detailed but then he decides there is no such thing as too detailed. The car getting wrecked at the IMAX theatre? Too vague. That vase or that rug he ruined? A little too vague and too truthful. So, falling down the stairs works. It isn't as if he's boring during Chrismukkah season. He has more energy then the majority of Santa's elves combined.
Lunch at school is fairly quiet with the addition of Zack to discuss the latest issue of Astonishing X-Men. Seth doesn't dare bring up his and Ryan's previous two conversations, well, the big ones.
After school is the same story. Seth works on his homework in the kitchen while Ryan studies in the pool house. It's painful and hard and he's used to discussing everything with Ryan. If only Ryan would talk about everything. Seth can't change how Ryan feels or who Ryan likes or doesn't like.
But Seth can do something about vampires, or, Ryan's lack of belief in their existence.
The teenager waits until Ryan goes to the bathroom before setting the note he's written on his best friend's bed and grabbing the keys to his car.
Ryan,
I know there's a lot we have to discuss. No, not discuss. I mean. I said things and I don't regret saying some things while I do regret saying others... Went to go fight vampires. Crawford Cemetery.
Seth.
Sunset comes and goes while Seth drives to the cemetery where he first met Nick. Parking, he realizes he has absolutely nothing to fight possible vampires with nor can he actually count on there being a vampire there.
Perhaps his plan has some flaws.
