Running

I went for a very surreal run yesterday with my training partner. Friday gave us a shower of strange, soft, styrofoam hail which froze solid on the ground, concealing the running path. Our feet didn't sink at all running over the cover and we didn't leave footprints. The sun was out and there was next to no wind, both unusual for our Saturday runs. Even more unusual was the near complete desertion of the park. Normally there are people out power-walking their dogs, running, riding bikes. Normally the path is so crowded you're constantly passing people (or being passed, in my case). Even in snow storms there are determined marathon trainees, running alone or in grim packs. Yesterday there were times when we couldn't even see anyone else in the park. So we ran six miles along the hidden path by memory, in beautiful weather, with the park to ourselves in the middle of the city. It almost felt like the city had been deserted and everyone forgot to tell us.
