Brilliant

Mm, orthodontist visits. Now there's something I haven't had to do for several years now. So I booked an appointment for 9:00am on Friday in the morning, and woke up nice and early thinking that I'd be able to get there with time to spare. All I'd have to do is take a train up the Glen Waverley line, change to the Sandringham line at Richmond Station, get off at Elsternwick Station, hop onto a tram outside the station, and ride it all the way to the clinic. Simple. ...Well, simple when things work out right.
The 8:00am Glen Waverley train was late by about 2 minutes, and because of the morning peak, meant that it was also running a little slow. I got to Richmond Station just in time to watch the Sandringham train pull away from the platform. "Great," I thought. "I'll just wait for the next train then shall I?" 5 minutes pass when there's an announcement. "Attention passengers for the Sandringham line platform 1. The 8:45 Sandringham train has been delayed, and is now expected in 10 minutes. Connex apologises for any inconvenience caused." Inconvenienced my arse. >_< So by the time the train showed up and got me to Elsternwick, it was already about 9:15am. Just as I exit the station, I see a tram sail right by. Arse. So I decided that, seeing as how I'm already running late, may as well walk it instead of waiting for the next tram.
Unfortunately for me, it's been quite a while since I've walked down that road, so I'd forgotten just how long the hike to the clinic was. I thought I'd be able to get there in about 5 - 10 minutes. I ended up getting there in 20. It was a nice sunny morning though, so I guess it wasn't so bad. But when you've been held up and are running late, a 20 minute walk in the sun is not really something you need. -_-
So I get to the clinic, and luckily enough from me they were still able to slot me in. It's quite a nice practice they've got there - everything's pretty nicely furnished with computer monitors hanging on the wall inside the rooms to show who's occupying which room and what procedure they're getting done. Interesting that the procedures have number codes on them too.
So I had a glance at the monitor near my chair as I was sitting there waiting for the mold to set. Funny that, having run late for my appointment, I noticed that the procedure code was some how familiar. So, and I kid you not, the display on the monitor for me had something along the lines of "Patient - No Show - 404".
...Sometimes I wonder if things happen for a reason. >_>

Been playing a fair bit of Open TTD lately too. Oh man, so addictive. *_* It's pretty much Transport Tycoon, but redone to work under Windows, and with a whole bunch of other improvements like being able to play on a map that's 2048x2048. That's a pretty epic scale, man.
So yes, building my rail network and setting up airline routes across the map. And then watching the little vehicles go from station to station. Just awesome. They got bigger airports now too, though mine still seem to keep getting congested. :B And the limits on the train sizes and station sizes have been greatly eased, too. I pity the foo' who doesn't appreciate the art of making their own train network. >:3
Just goes to show that even for game that's old and doesn't involve guns or swords, it can still be a great deal of fun. :3

Oh, but speaking of old games with swords, I'm finally playing through Final Fantasy VII. Like, for real this time. Not like the last time when I said I'd play it, got through about 10 minutes of it, and then gave up. :B
Everyone's always saying "OMG BEST GAEM EVAR!!!11" so I figured I'd see what the fuss was all about. And, having only gotten only part way through the first disc, I think what can be said about it that makes it so awesome can be be summed up in one word: "variety." Seriously, not many games let you do battle in RPG style, command an army RTS style, compete in races Mario Kart style, and a whole bunch of other mini games which I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of the tip of that iceberg.
I can see why people disliked 8 so much, having come off the back end from 7. Seems like 8 sacrificed gameplay for better graphics where as in 7 it was vice versa in a big way. Although I have to say that I still like the story to 8 a little better, or, at least, the way the dialogue was written. Seemed better thought out in 8.
So anyway, I'm just out of the desert prison now in my little buggy, and I'm tipping that some flower girl gets it somewhere towards the end of the second disc. NO SPOILING NOW ZOMG!!!11 o_o

But yeah, y'see, that's the one thing that games are missing that'd make them good - variety. None of this good graphics crap or, shudder, "accessibility" bullshit. HOW ABOUT SOME FREAKING GAMEPLAY!? >:B
But noooo, that's not what the money spinners who bankroll games want. Heck, they they don't even want to make games. All they really want is some product that they can sell for a profit. And if that way of thinking means you get a boring game, tough shit. Fun games take too much effort. This business is not about effort. It's about putting in less and getting back more. This business is about minimising effort and maximising profit. >:B
That's why there are so many mediocre and dud games coming out on the PS3 and Wii. Idiots. I pity the foo' who pays good money for bad trash. Although, I did hear that Super Mario Galaxy was supposed to be quite sublime. *_* Now there's a game I might consider buying. :3 d
And I gotta say, I'm grateful that where we're at, we're at least moving away from the accessibility bandwagon and focusing more on gameplay. May this be the first few steps to doing it right. :o
