Oh yeah, I got a new computer at work. It's black, shiny, and actually quite impressive. I took a peek at the video card inside it and damn is it huge. o_O If you could imagine taking four slices of toast, arranged them into two stacks of two, and then pushed the stacks together, that's about the size of this video card. It would not surprise me to find a hamster inside running on a little treadmill to power it.
Unfortunately, this new computer is incredibly unstable, locking up randomly whenever I try running the applications that its beefiness is supposed to facilitate and occasionally giving me a blue screen. I think I counted about 11 times during the course of today that I had to reach for the reset button. :B
So IT is looking into it and will probably return this box to sender and give me a new machine. Oddly enough tough, I think I might, at least initially, miss this current computer when they take it away. I think I've almost brokered a truce with it that we can both amicably agree to. It will agree to no konk out if I agree to not attempt make it do any work. ...You think maybe my computer is a part of some kind of worker's union? o_0

I've been watching a series of videos on YouTube about video games of the 90s, aptly titled Gaming In The Clinton Years. Y'know, around the time when the SNES was still big and the first Sony PlayStation was still in its infancy. Ah, good times.
It's just a shame that the narrator is completely off in some of his assessments on the quality of certain titles. I get the feeling that this guy reckons Jurassic Park is better than Secret Of Mana. Yeah... nah. And what's with all this talk about cheating this and cheating that? I like cheating, I cheat through a lot of games without remorse. I don't like having to re-do the same thing over and over just because I mess up in one spot after 10 minutes and have to repeat the whole process again. But when you starts using phrases like "This game is easy if you cheat," well... there's lose street cred and then there's lose street cred x100.
Still, I suppose a lot of clips were done in the days before internet access was common, so there were a lot of sometimes obscure or cryptic game play elements which seemed harder than they really work. Anyway, if you can ignore the guy's commentary and heavy accent, it's a nice trip down memory lane. :3
Speaking of SNES games, I've also been looking into some game retrospectives on GameTrailers. The commentary on these videos are much better, to say the least. Looking back, my man zinj and I concur that music in games have not been as good since the SNES days.
Seriously. Have you ever noticed that, unless it's a Zelda game or Final Fantasy game, musics these days aren't really all that memorable.
I think music, like gameplay, has taken a bit of a back seat in favour of graphics. Because, of course, HD resolutions and bloom is what makes for a good game these days. >_>

BUT I RAMBLE ON TOO MUCH. :B
