The delicious taste of fake blood

Sep 06, 2009 21:18

Photowhoring today didn't quite go as planned...we got some of the photos we had planned(the ones that involved using the white shikifuku costume-no blood though for those...I might have already worn that costume to conventionsand my 21st etc, but I still can't bear to get it all stained, even though that would make for some great photos.)

I got changed and bloodied up, but by then it was getting dark, and starting to rain...so no good photos. We will finish that up another time =3

We did however make super effective fake blood that also um...tasted really nice. Our fake blood consisted of red food dye, sweet condensed milk, cocoa and corn syrup. Although red food dye and consensed milk work pretty good on their own, cocoa gives it that deeper brownishness that blood has as it dries(and chocolate flavour=p), and corn syrup makes it glossier. I was having this combination liberally smeared all over my clothes and hands and I just wanted to eat it, it smelled so sweet!

I went looking for corn syrup(all the recipes I found on the internets seemed to use it), not really knowing what it was or where to find it, couldn't find it anywhere at the supermarket, got home and thought, maybe golden syrup would work just as well, went rummaging through the dark depths of our kitchen cupboards and found a bottle of...corn syrup.

It looked like it was an obscure item my mother had bought years ago and never used. I think corn syrup is maybe the American equivalent of liquid glucose? That's what it seemed like anyway...sometimes it's so confusing when reading tutorials/recipes and the like on the internet, because the terms are different to what I know.

cosplay, finger painting with sei-chan, tasty tasty fake blood, x
