things i keep forgetting to write about

- the structural brilliance of York's campus: over most of the main walkways and bridges they have cover, a kind of awning/roof so that you don't get soaked walking to class. very convenient.
- i am so, so mad at myself for not ordering a Goodricke hoodie. a green one, in particular. they've got our very pretty York crest in the upper left corner, with the uni's name and college. on the right corner you can have your name stitched. far superior to anything i've seen at York Canada - especially because both university and college name are easily identifiable. in Spring term they will possibly be on sale again. year-round they do sell these sweaters (which, i swear, one quarter of the students own) in all different colours, except they only say "York University" on them. this is great here, but once i'm at home? it'll be nothing special.
- Mom's birthday is today. this means i get to speak to her, but also to Omi and Tante Chris - yay!
- Anna's birthday is today too, and we're going out to celebrate. she's currently in London with her parents and brother for her surprise present. we're thinking she went to see a West End play. much jealous.
- Chris's best mate and his girlfriend of over a year(?) split up on Friday. not good. i don't know what to do... she's quite broken up about it and so Chris has offered to lend her his ear whenever she needs it. poor girl has tonsilitis at the moment too, eek. Chris thinks his friend is being a prat and she shouldn't take him back, though he's afraid she will. Chris doesn't get that girls do really, really stupid things when they're in love, and will tolerate a whole bunch of shite they wouldn't normally. he thinks we should be more rational, ahaha
- my seminar prof thought i was German. German German. i hadn't even ever mentioned my German background to him, but when i was getting my essay back last week he said, "Your English is quite good." and i'm like, "Yes, thank you." and he continues, "Although, many European students' English is particularly strong because of the emphasis placed on it in schools." me, "Um, yes? But I grew up in Canada and thankfully our English isn't too different than yours." "Oh," he says, shocked. "You were actually born in Canada?" "Born and raised. But yes, my family is all German." he excuses himself, "I just thought... a lot of Germans when they speak English tend to have North American accents." mass awkwardness, hahaha. he was so embarassed, it was fun. of course, i probably should've kept my mouth shut and let him think i was German. he'd probably continue to be relatively lenient on my essays, hahaha.
- i miss working for Pro Tem
- Chris and i were walking back from town this morning (long story) and stopped by this little country market store on the way. i picked up some blueberries, bananas, and grapefruits. he beckoned me inside, where he'd found some great red peppers for only 19p! you can imagine his excitement. he's like, "You know stuffed peppers, right? Wouldn't these be great for that? I would love to make some stuffed peppers. A little rice, some spices, gorgeous." i say, laughing for the umpteenth time over his excitement for food, "Yeah, actually I know Ellen was planning on making some this week." "Oh perfect! Shall we buy some for her?" "Sure," I say, "I'll give her a ring." i handed the phone to him, 'cause technically it was his idea, and stood back, watching the shifting expressions of delight on his face. this man and his food, honestly. it's the most adorable thing.
- i really should have a tag for 'food'
- hearing the Scarborough stories - though there was nothing too raunchy - made me realize i'd indeed made the right decision in staying. meeting Mark's parents and grandmother would've been superb, but i did have a great time here. besides, seeing Chris again after he'd been away (what, all of 24hrs?) made it all worthwhile. distance makes the heart grow fonder and all that, haha.
- "Grease" on Friday night was amazing. the singing and dancing and ensembles were crazy impressive. even more so when you considered it wasn't the DramaSoc that put it on, but the Happily Ever After Soc (focused on creating random happy events). the costumes were great, and they even managed to find this old 50s car to have onstage. Danny and Sandy were well cast, but it was the actors who played Rizzo and Kenickie that stole the show. everytime they were present you couldn't take your eyes off of them. Rizzo had the most incredible voice, and i've never seen a more agile (and suitably sexual, haha) dancer than Kenickie. it was a wonderful girls' night out.
- i am thoroughly content.
