change of plans

"Kids and grown-ups love it so, the happy world of Haribo."
mmm.

so you know how i was supposed to go to Mark's in Scarborough this weekend? nixed. as soon as i found out Emily and Ngaio were going too, i became less enthusiastic. they're sweet, but not in concentrated amounts. when Anna decided she wanted to see the school's production of "Grease" for her birthday Friday evening, i agreed to accompany her, along with everyone else staying here. should be loads of fun. yeah, i'll be missing out on an adventure, but i'm sure that in the end i'll be happy i stayed. i don't fancy watching the girls beg attention from the guys in their "drunken" state.
after getting back my Eliot essay today (which i, as an exchangee, get to resubmit as my final one in week 10 - yay) my professor set the next one. actually, i did far better than the 40% i was expecting, haha. during an awkward-as-hell 15mins with my prof in his office (i know it was a bad essay, he knows it was a bad essay) i found out i got 62%. according to other students, that is a GOOD mark. guys, my ego is going to take such the beating in this country.
anyway - fun news! fun/scary. the weekend of the 28/29/30th i'm going to Sheffield! that's right. time to meet the family. or part of it anyway. oh gods. Chris had been speaking with his stepmom earlier today 'cause she wanted to know if he is free to go on the 30th to have dinner with his stepgrandparents. he is, and happily so. later this evening, after dinner (he made the most ambrosial Thai chicken soup: coconut milk and green onions and red peppers and peanuts and all things heavenly) i'm doing the washing-up while talking to Ellen and Vicki when he waves me out into the corridor. apparently his dad and stepmom asked if he'd like to bring me along to the dinner too! i'd go up to Sheffield with him on Friday, and then go with the whole family (stepbrother too, i think) out for dinner. completely flattered and pleased, i give him a definite yes. i can see how much it means to him. but kids - i am terrified. this is a lot of new people. no pressure! like, i'm used to already knowing the family of people i date, being comfortable with them and whatnot. this is new for me, and scary, haha.
that's more or less what's new in the happy English world of your Stephanie. life is pretty grand, i gotta say. have decided not to go to Amsterdam with TravelSoc, and will rather save the money for my holidays. or rather, holiday shopping. don't be offended darlings if this year you don't get anything from me. shipping and handling are not my friends! and, oh my, Chris has his birthday on December 22nd. any early ideas? eek.
as of 1:15 Wednesday i have had off. and will continue to have off until 2:15 November 25th. jealous much? gotta love reading week! and cancelled lectures. and class-free Fridays. and Mondays. luckily for me - most of you can't berate me because i know you Canadian Yorkies have been slacking for quite some time already! besides... i have a beast of an essay to write. will symbolism in Woolf prove a more worthy subject than identity in Eliot? here's hoping.
