No, you didn't exceed my expectations

I just sent the following letter to the manager of Nobhill Tavern at the MGM Grand. I copied to an email address I was told has something to do with the hotel's dining management office. I'm not entirely convinced that was good information, but it was worth a shot.

Mr Dakin,
Thank you for expressing interest in my experience at the Nobhill Tavern last month.

Unfortunately, my experience did not exceed my expectations. The primary concern for my companion and me was being seated next to a boisterous party of 40. The aural assault in the dining room made enjoying our meal impossible.

When we mentioned that the noise was beyond the level of tolerable, we were simply told the size of the party as if that made the noise reasonable. Shortly afterward, the table next to us was moved into one of the private rooms in the bar area. We were not offered such a possibility.

In addition, the wait person assigned to us was also serving that party, and a party of two is never going to be able to compete for the attention of a server with a party that large and I do believe our service suffered. While it was still within the range of acceptable, I had been led to expect exceptional service from the website and press for the restaurant as well as the conversation I'd had with the host the day before when I happened to be in the MGM Grand checked out the restaurant in anticipation of our reservations.

While the food was very good, it was impossible to appreciate properly in so oppressive an environment.

Also, the food, while certainly above average, suffered in comparison to the meal I had eaten just the night before at another Las Vegas restaurant, the Village Steakhouse. That meal was the finest I've ever had and the meal at the Tavern just did not quite measure up.

Sincerely,
Jonathan
