Ah, automobiles & such

We braved the DMV today (a few attempts later...) and both Husband & I passed our written laws-of-the-road test.  I got a 100% on mine, and the DMV guy acted impressed and drew a smiley face in my 00's.  I have to admit, the little perfectionist school-girl in me got a kick out of that.  A bunch of paperwork, thumbprints, photographs, 30 minutes of waiting and $27 later, I will have my CA driver's license in... 2 to 3 weeks.  Yes, folks, they can't even hand it to you on this day, they process their driver's licenses here and send them IN THE MAIL.  (This is where I smack myself on the forehead with the palm of my hand.)  So in the meantime, I have my Wisconsin license with a hole punched in it and a paper "temporary" license which is a half-sheet of paper and not really convenient for carrying around in a wallet.  Whatever.
Likewise, we filled out all of the paperwork, paid & verified my car for switching over my registration & title to California ones, but I need to go and get my smog certification tomorrow.  Then, I go BACK to the DMV, with screwdriver in hand, take my plates off in the parking lot and then SURRENDER them (yes, that's the word they used), and then get my new plates.  I think I want to get environmental ones for an extra $5 -- they have a whale's tail on them.  So... cross your fingers that my car passes its smog certification on the first try tomorrow!

On other notes, Trader Joe's makes wonderful ready-to-cook dinner: tonight we tried the pecan & hazelnut encrusted salmon and it was completely fantastic, with an easy side of potatoes.  AND our Internet connection IN the apartment roared to life just as dinner was finishing, so we are now officially back in the land of the hooked-up!

food!, i hate moving, day to day...
