It was a good day

I filled up my gas tank before work... $4.18 in the AM, and it was already up a nickel/gallon to $4.23 when I came home.  This is at one of the cheaper gas stations in town, mind you -- off the freeways, it's closer to $4.50/gallon for 87.  It hurts, people, it hurts.  Our patients have been cancelling their appointments if they don't have gas money, especially around the end of the month.  It's really quite sad.

Work was still crazy & busy, but I got about a third of my student's big honking CPI (Clinical Performance Instrument) done for our review/her last day on Friday and also figured out some staffing issues for weekends.  And the icing on the cake was, at the end of the day, we found out that my student has accepted her job offer and will be coming on full-time for us in July!  Hooray!  I see good things ahead for work... better and more thorough staffing & quality therapists, people to help grow from good students into great PTs, good things, indeed :)

It's hard to believe that I've almost been out in California a year...time flies.  In some ways, it feels like I just got here... in others, like I've been here forever.  Today one of my coworkers told me that he's glad he got to know me, because I prove that people in the Midwest aren't culturally backwards hicks (not exactly how he said it, but close).  I told him thank you and that I'd take that as a compliment.  The Californian view of the Midwest is a weekly source of amusement, it is.  Hee hee.
