Bursts of Colour

I can't believe I haven't been posting here for a long, long time... This is what happens when you have too much on your plate.

To give credence to my claim that I am a certified "wanderlust," I'll be sharing here some of my pictures from my weekend trip to the Quezon province to attend their Pahiyas Festival.

Having a co-therapist with a house in the province is really convenient, especially when it comes to going on road trips for a much needed vacation. This time, it was Teacher Sheena's turn to act as host to our group of wanderers as we attend the Pahiyas Festival.

First stop was the Kamay ni Hesus grotto (Hands of Jesus). Too bad we weren't able to actually climb the grotto since a Healing Mass was being celebrated at the Church when we got there. We were told that we would be allowed to climb after the Mass, but we were all too excited to see the houses that's why we just took pictures instead. Just click on the thumbnails to make the pictures bigger.

The first statue I saw in the grounds was that of St. Rose of Lima. I just had to have my picture taken beside her, since she's my patron saint... hence my name.

Even the walkway was an interesting sight with the footprints of the donors of the grotto.

A view of the grotto from the bottom of the stairs. It is quite a climb, by the looks of it.

This is me trying out the features of my digicam. Still no DLSRs for me, hehehe.

Two of my fave people at the clinic, Teacher Pao and Teacher Richard

After countless pictures of the scenery, we decided to head on to town to experience the colors of Pahiyas.

Traffic was quite heavy so we had to walk for about a kilometer to get to the town proper. On the way there, we passed by a gasoline station with these cute attendants.

Just 2 of the streets taking part in the festival this year.

People actually open their houses to the revelers so they could take pictures, and partake of the food theyr prepared for the festival.

No space is spared from all the colourful kipings and decorations from the harvest this year.

A close up on some of the decorations. Truly a display of Filipino creativity at its best!

I'm not surprised that these houses won some prizes in the competition.

Even buildings took part in the festivities, adding a different depth to the decorations.

Who knows, they might be the next stars of the 3D film to beat Avatar.

A festival ain't a festival without some free booze. Sign says "Free shots!" in Tagalog.

  Butadakimasu!

With Sheena's parents.

Shameless cam-whoring time!

Reminds me of Laruku's song, round and round...

Last but not the least, I bring to you, Sheena, the festival peacock... :)
