As most of you may have noticed, I tend to ramble and digress too much when I have a lot to talk about. This entry is another proof of such bad habits...

(1) Mum's birthday thingy/household prayer meeting
Mum turns 58 today [uh-oh... I just had to write down her age] and she decided to celebrate her birthday lots of times. The first of her series of birthday parties was held yesterday at our house in San Mateo. She scheduled her household prayer meeting to coincide with her birthday so she'll just treat her Handmaids of the Lord friends just once. Originally, she wanted to have it today but she had to move it to Friday coz she needs me to cook for her and there's no way you can make me absent from my Saturday clinics [and lose quite a big amount of PF].
So I played hooky from my other clinic [yeah, the perks of being the Clinic Manager] to help out with her lunch party. My mum has quite a temper, especially when we're having visitors over at the house [scrub the grills, scrub the bathroom, scrub the garage, re-arrange stuff...you'd think she's selling the house] that I wasn't really looking forward to being her only helper that day, with my sisters at school and at work. Good thing though that everything went pretty well that day, none of the usual drama brought about by having gatherings at home. I was even able to convince mum to have some wine [yeah, ms.i-don't-get-get-drunk came from mrs.i-don't-have-any-vice-yeah-not-a-single-one].
Check out some of the stuff I prepared...
Tuna Macaroni Pasta
Beef short-ribs
plus
sesame seeds and spring onions
equals...
A Korean-inspired beef dish
It totally slipped my mind that it's already Lent, hence the need for fasting and abstinence :(. To make up for that oversight, I prepared...
Vegetable stir-fry [still cooking]
cooked version [gotta love the colors]
stuffed milkfish [rellenong bangus]
suman...uhm...ricecakes?
I forgot to take pictures of the salad I made for dessert, almond lychee jelly :)
Here's a couple of mum pictures...
Mum's third from the right - KAMPAI!!!
I thought they were pretty weird here coz they drank wine while having snacks at around 4 pm, after they had more ricecakes, some petit-fours, iced tea and coffee...oh well, whatever floats your boat!
The token firing squad pose...Mum's arm is twisted coz she's keeping our dog away from her visitors, lol.
Happy Birthday, Mum! [now you're famous]
(2) I was pretty tired at the end of the day coz of all the cooking and serving so I treated myself to some pick-me-ups...
Grande watermelon zagu with extra crystals [those brown thingies at the bottom are tapioca balls, the type usually served with milk teas.
Meiji Black chocolate bar
and...
Staring at my Kame uchiwa c/o
amane_nakashima Man, it was so worth the $15 I paid for that [look, half a year old yet still with the plastic cover on, lol]
(3) Decided that this will be a picture post [my apologies to those with bad internet connection] and so I took some random photos around the house.
Just one of our 10,000 bookshelves at home...to complement our 10,000 kitchen cabinets [I swear, mum has a thing for hoarding] Filled with cookbooks, CDs, a shoebox containing our cellphone chargers, we have a total of 5 cellphones at home, all with different chargers, lol] and those books you get from Reader's Digest.
Like the picture above, this is also one of our 10,000 tabletops filled with CDs and DVDs. If you look closely, you'll see some L-arc~en~Ciel DVDs, Nino's Letters from Iwo Jima, Death Note and some VCDs we bought on sale.
Mum used to work for the government agency in-charge of gaming so when she retired, she got this old slot machine as one of her parting gifts. It's actually a mini-bar, compete with wine glasses, and bottle holders inside.
Mum likes changing the look of the house depending on the season. Since it's almost summer, it's time for her sunflower-theme [yuck!!!] We have sunflower-designed sofa covers, table cloths, table runners, garden set seat covers, even big sunflowers at home. That cartoony flower is my protest to her sunflower theme [at least it's still a flower]. Good thing she pairs clean cream colored curtains with her sunflowers or else, our house will look like one big sunflower patch.
2 of my favorite dogs...
Tutti - originally named Razorback coz she has a black stripe running down her back but my grandma went ahead and called her Tutti...
Ani - my half-Labrador, half-I dunno love. Her name's actually short for Anino [Tagalog for shadow] She's 35 years old in dog years.
Our dogs all have weird names. There's Ani, Too and Taa, a pair of mutts [their names' are a play on Tuta - Tagalog for puppy, since we thought it was pretty hilarious to call them that, never mind that they'll someday be too old to be called tutas] and Tutti [a smaller tuta was the inspiration for that, lol] Ironically, the newest addition to our brood of dogs has a very simple name, Joshua [again, courtesy of grandma].
(4) I'm currently watching the reruns of this reality show on etc.
This show is so0o good. The crews from season 1 are so good. I hope the ones in season 2 and 3 are also as good as those from the first one.
Kaba Modern
JabbaWockeeZ [pinoy pride, yeah!]
Oooh, why did you have to face each other in the semis?!?
