So here's something the world could have done without: painted gourds.
I did try to utilize my fine art training (color theory! pattern!), but it started to feel like work. The obvious solution was to break out the neon colors and goldleaf instead, because life is short. (Incidentally, the purple and gold gourd is Mom's least favorite. I cannot fathom why.)
Dad did the hard work of hanging them (since I Do Not Do Ladders™). For those of you who have gourds lying around and a lot of time to kill, then here is the process:
1) Rinse the gourds and spray paint them white. If you skip this step, then I wash my hands of you!
2) Use acrylic paint and a brush to paint your design.
3) I used a grease pencil to outline some of the designs. This is optional, of course. It also depends on whether you own a grease pencil.
4) Spray with clear protective coating.
5) Drill hole near the top.
6) Hang with fishing wire.
7) Admire.
8) Inform neighbors that you are willing to sell them for $1000.00 each, because that is how many hours went into them.
We planted more gourds this year. Bwahahahaha!
